The second half of the collection contains essays on recent defenders of liberalism, such as Friedrich Hayek, Isaiah Berlin and John Rawls and liberalisms many critics, including Michel Foucault, Jrgen Habermas and Alasdair MacIntyre.

CATHERINE H. ZUCKERT is currently Professor of Political Science, as well as Editor-in-Chief of The Review of Politics , at the University of Notre Dame. She has written several books, the most recent of which is Plato's Philosophers: The Coherence of the Dialogues . Her books have won several awards, including the R. R. Hawkins Award for the Best Scholarly and Professional Book in 2009; the PROSE Awards for Best Book in Philosophy and Excellence in the Humanities; and the PSP Award for the Best Book in Philosophy and Religion in 1990. Zuckert has had articles published in Political Theory, The Journal of Politics, History of Political Thought, The Review of Politics, Philosophy & Rhetoric, Epoch, Review of Metaphysics, Polity, Interpretation , and The Claremont Review of Books.

Ruth Abbey is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. She is the author of Nietzsche's Middle Period and Philosophy Now: Charles Taylor , as well as editor of Contemporary Philosophy in Focus: Charles Taylor .
Michael Bacon is Lecturer in Political Theory at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is the author of Richard Rorty: Pragmatism and Political Liberalism , as well as articles on Rorty, pragmatism, and deliberative democracy.
Joseph Buttigieg is William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of English and Co-Director of Italian Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He is president of the International Gramsci Society, as well as editor and translator of the multivolume, complete critical edition of Antonio Gramsci's Prison Notebooks .
John M. Finnis is Professor Emeritus of Law and Legal Philosophy at Oxford University and Biolchini Family Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame. One of H. L. A. Hart's most famous students, Finnis is also a member of the British Academy. He is the author of Natural Law and Natural Rights , among numerous other works.
David Fott is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he is also Director of the Great Works Academic Certificate program. He is the author of John Dewey: America's Philosopher of Democracy , as well as articles and book chapters on Dewey, Cicero, Machiavelli, Montesquieu, U.S. presidential power, and Jane Austen.
Timothy Fuller is Lloyd E. Worner Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at Colorado College. He has published many essays and has edited numerous books, including Reassessing the Liberal State ; Leading and Leadership ; The Voice of Liberal Learning: Michael Oakeshott on Education ; Michael Oakeshott on Religion, Politics, and the Moral Life ; and Something of Great Constancy: Essays in Honor of the Memory of J. Glenn Gray .
William Galston is Ezra K. Zilkha Chair in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution. His books include Justice and the Human Good , Liberal Purposes , and Liberal Pluralism: The Implications of Value Pluralism for Political Theory and Practice , of which chapter 5 deals explicitly with the liberalism of Isaiah Berlin.
Eric Mack is Professor of Philosophy at Tulane University. He is the author of Locke in Continuum Press's Major Conservative and Libertarian Thinkers series, as well as articles on the foundation of moral rights, property rights and distributive justice, and the legitimate scope of coercive institutions.
Arthur Madigan S. J., is Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Boston College. He has published Plato, Aristotle, and Professor MacIntyre in Ancient Philosophy , as well as books on Alexander of Aphrodisias and Aristotle's Metaphysics .
William Leon McBride is Arthur G. Hansen Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Purdue University and president of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies. His publications include Social and Political Philosophy , Sartre's Political Theory , Philosophical Reflections on the Changes in Eastern Europe , and From Yugoslav Praxis to Global Pathos: Anti-Hegemonic Post-Post-Marxist Essays .
Alan Milchman co-edited (with Alan Rosenberg) Foucault and Heidegger: Critical Encounters , Postmodernism and the Holocaust , and Martin Heidegger and the Holocaust . He is Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Queens College of the City University of New York.
