Since 1987 Elliott A. Norse has been senior ecologist for The Wilderness Society Previously, he was public policy director for The Ecological Society of America and staff ecologist for the Presidents Council on Environmental Quality. A coauthor of Conserving Biological Diversity in Our National Forests, published by The Wilderness Society in 1986, Dr. Norse has also contributed to a wide range of scientific journals. In 1980, for the Council on Environmental Quality, he was coauthor of a paper that was instrumental in defining the term biological diversity and identifying the alarming rate of extinctions. Dr. Norse lives in Washington, D.C.
