Careers in International Affairs, now in its 7th Edition, stands in the sterling reputation of its previous editions as being a major resource for anyone, young or old, seeking to help make a safer and more stable world through their contributions in an international career. This new, totally revised edition provides up-to-date descriptions and data about careers in the global workplace and how to find them. Much more than a lengthy list of potential organizations and contacts, Careers in International Affairs goes beyond what is traditionally offered to international job seekers by providing, among other attributes, a wealth of insight and information on global career networking. Particularly helpful is the addition of a chapter on Internet job searches, which have grown exponentially since the last edition. Other highlights of the new edition include invaluable information contributed by career counselors and practitioners in the international affairs community that focus on interviewing, working with mentors, and how to use all the modern avenues available to search for international career opportunities. Firsthand perspectives on various career sectors are provided by those who have found their own international niche, and a comprehensive bibliography of relevant web sites rounds out this one-of-a-kind. This unique resource is designed to encourage those seeking an international career to think about what they know and what talents they have to offer, to make them widen their horizons and consider all the possibilities, to help them realize that the future could hold several careers, and that it is never too early-or too late-to consider the variety of options that await them around the world. Careers in International Affairs is published in cooperation with Georgetown Universitys School of Foreign Service, the oldest and largest school of international affairs in the United States.

Preface
The sixth edition of Careers in International Affairs is written for 20th century students who will have 21st century careers. Changes in technology, telecommunication, and transportation, in social institutions and political structures as well as demographics, will continue to transform the careers of bankers and businessmen, consultants and diplomats, public officials and nonprofit organizers at an increasingly rapid pace. Today it is a clich to say that the world is getting smaller. Soon most careers will be global and distances will be important only insofar as we go about bridging them. Careers, then, will be about finding ways to cross those distances. As we look toward the 21st century, we cannot afford to be shortsighted about the skills and knowledge we will need to succeed.
