Remarks by the President of the SVU at the Opening of the SVU Conference "Czech-Americans in Transition: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future"
Your Excellency Ambassador Vondra, President Leshikar, Members of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences, Distinguished Guests!
It gives me great pleasure to open this historical SVU [Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Science] Conference, during which a number of distinguished speakers will address some of the salient issues facing Czech-Americans today.
I am delighted to see so many non-members here. This gives me hope that some of you will soon join our ranks. Above all, I welcome among us the new Czech Ambassador Alexandr Vondra, who will stay and participate with us throughout most of the conference today. I am delighted to say that he is here, not only as a guest, but also as a recently joined member of our Society. Let that be an example for others!
