Introduction
At first glance, Czech traditional cuisines are meat and potatoes with lots of gravy and some veggies sides. Their food is rich, intense, and delicious, and you might find yourself going for a second serving.
Okay, meat lovers will love Czech food because it is dense and filling and largely centered on root vegetables and meat because of the cold chilling winters.
There is hardly any variety with Czech cuisines as the extreme cold does not allow one to explore culinary techniques. Furthermore, tomatoes and cucumbers are the most common veggies and are used in many salads.

(1) Butter Bread with Cumin
You can make this bread manually or in a bread maker machine!
Duration: 70 minutes
Yield: 5
List of Ingredients:
- 12 oz. of flour
- 1 oz. of barley flakes
- 1 tablespoon of melted butter
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of cumin
- 2 eggs
- cup of sour cream

Procedure:
1. In one deep bowl, mix flour, flakes, baking and soda powder, cumin and salt. Use mixer!
2. Separately, in another bowl - mix eggs with sour cream and sugar.
3. Join 2 mixtures together and knead the dough.
4. Gradually, add melted butter to get a fine dough.
5. Make bread shape out of the dough and bake it for 50 minutes at 250 F.
6. Enjoy your homemade Czech bread!
(2) Czech Vegetable Soup
Duration: 45 minutes
Yield: 3
List of Ingredients:
- 4 white potatoes
- 1 leek
- 1 garlic clove
- cup of olive oil
- cup of white wine
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon of cut parsley
- 1 celery leaf

Procedure:
1. Cut peeled potatoes into small cubes, leek into thin lines.
2. Place in a casserole dish, alternately a row of potatoes and a row of leeks. (Place until you are out of the ingredients)
3. Cut garlic. Mix it with olive oil and white wine.
4. Cover the vegetables with this mixture and add 1 cup of water.
5. Add spices and let it cook until potatoes become soft. Keep it on a low heat.
6. Enjoy! You can add more vegetables optionally, for example, peas, red bell pepper, almonds.
(3) Ank a Soup
Duration: 40 minutes
Yield: 4
List of Ingredients:
- 4 cups of milk
- 3 teaspoons of red pepper
- 1 oz. of starch
- Pinch of cumin
- 7 oz. of onion
- 17 oz. of potatoes
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup of water
- 2 teaspoons of lemon juice

Procedure:
1. Cut onion into small lines, potatoes into small cubes.
2. Cook them with spices in hot water, for 10 minutes.
3. In another cooking pot, cook milk with starch. Let it boil.
4. After that, add eggs and lemon juice to the milk.
5. Join 2 mixtures together. Cook for another 5 minutes and then serve!
(4) Czech Apple Pie
Or in the Czech language Jablen kol
Duration: 30 minutes
Yield: 4
List of Ingredients:
- 6 apples
- 7 oz. of raisins
- 4 oz. of milled hazelnuts
- 1 pack of dough (12 layers pack)
- 1 lemon (crust only)
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 3 tablespoons of honey

Procedure:
1. Peel and grind the apples. Mix them with raisins, lemon crust, and honey.
2. Take 6 layers of the pastry. (For the first roll, you will need 2)
3. Sprinkle 3 of them with oil and then pile ingredients on them in this order:
- of the cinnamon
- of the milled hazelnuts
4. Add 3 layers more and repeat the process.
5. Roll the pastry.
6. Make another roller on the same way, with another 6 layers.
7. Put them into the casserole dish and bake for 12 minutes at 275 F. (Until the crust gets a fine color)
8. When they are done, cut them into smaller pieces and serve cold.
9. Enjoy!
(5) Czech Fruit Tea
Duration: 70 minutes
Yield: 6
List of Ingredients:
- 4 pounds of various fruit (apples, lemon, orange, strawberries, raspberries...)
- 1 pound of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of anise
