This is one of seven books by Laurence Parent published by Globe Pequot Press and Falcon Guidesthe others are Hiking Texas, Hiking New Mexico, Hiking Big Bend National Park, Scenic Driving Wyoming, Scenic Driving North Carolina, and Scenic Driving Texas. He has also completed about forty other books for other publishers. His photos and articles appear in many national and regional magazines, calendars, and books. He completed New Mexico Wild & Beautiful, a large-format photo book on New Mexico, and Santa Fe Impressions, a smaller photo book on Santa Fe.
Laurence was born and raised mostly in New Mexico. After receiving a petroleum engineering degree at the University of Texas at Austin, he practiced engineering for six years before becoming a full-time freelance photographer and writer, specializing in landscape, architecture, travel, and nature subjects for commercial and editorial clients. He makes his home in Prescott, Arizona, with his wife, Patricia, and two children.
Numerous people helped me produce this book. I wish to thank my wife, Patricia, who accompanied me on my New Mexico travels when she could and took care of my office business when I was away. Thanks also to John Sanders and my father, Hiram Parent, who accompanied me on several trips. I also want to thank my office managers, Lora Hufton and Joanna Ruley-Garza.
David and Debbie Dozier, John and Emily Drabanski, Hiram and Annette Parent, Velva Price, Terry and Jonathon Hull, Murt and Nadine Sullivan, Laura and Walter Ford, Jeff and Kristina Fort, and Nancy Wizner all provided places to sleep, airport shuttles, and other essential favors during my travels. Many people of the National Park Service and the USDA Forest Service were very helpful with maps and information, particularly Ron Henderson and Bob Crisman.
Finally, thanks go to editors Amy Lyons, David Legere, Sarah Parke, Lynn Zelem, and Heather Santiago at Globe Pequot Press for giving me more opportunities to visit New Mexico.
