CONTENTS
The majority of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those who live in so called Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, are systematically brainwashed to believe in the narrative of Pakistan on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
Apart from these two regions, the Pakistani narrative has considerable following among the Muslims of Kashmir. Sadly, citizens of Jammu and Kashmir are not among those people who read books to discover facts about Jammu and Kashmir and the region.
My children are no exception to this. Of course they have done very well as far as their careers are concerned. They read books on other topics, but not on Jammu and Kashmir or Pakistan. Our children in Britain and Europe have very little interest in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan.
My daughter, Nageena Choudhry, is a professional lawyer in London. She has excelled in her profession, however, she did not read any book on Jammu and Kashmir or on Pakistan. She, and my other children, appreciated my dedication and hard work for unification and independence of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, after reading my book Legal Status of Jammu and Kashmir Realisation of Bitter Facts, Nageena Choudhry wrote the following:
I am embarrassed to say that I am counted as one of those children who has rarely taken an in-depth interest in what her father does passionately and professionally. Whilst I have always been aware of the general interest in Jammu and Kashmir, in the background whilst growing up, I never fully grasped the context of the Kashmiri dispute from my fathers perspective.
It is with further regret, I can say that I have never read anyone of my fathers books, always convincing myself that I will one day.
I have read this book, Legal Status of Jammu and Kashmir. This is my first reading into the whole Kashmiri dispute.
Firstly, it has to be said, I am immensely proud of my fathers work. I have always seen my father as a dad, as that is what he has always been to me, a dad. I have always been aware of my fathers talent and passion, however, reading this book has opened my eyes. It is a literal piece of genius work, well thought out, well considered and reasoned and most of all an unbiased truth which is rarely reported. The perspective of the book screams a Truth of a political minefield filled with secret agendas at the expense of our people and our land.
Anyone who has been affiliated with Pakistan, it is a hard read. The truth is often a bitter pill, especially for those who fulfil their sense of belonging to a misguided patriotism and an allegiance to a flag. If you are not prepared to accept the truth, and wish to continue in ignorance; my advice would be, do not read further.
I lived in Pakistan, for about ten months when I was thirteen. I attended school there for the better part of a year. I also travelled to Azad Kashmir and Pakistan whilst growing up on family visits. I never saw the distinction between Pakistan and Kashmir. It was one, as far as I was concerned?
That is what I believed, and this was all from my experience with Pakistan. What else did I believe? I believed India was the enemy. I believed all Indians were bad. This was not taught to me by my parents, but by Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. This was the belief I held up until my adult life. That was the result of being in Pakistan for less than a year.
We started our mornings in Kashmir singing anthems which would declare that Kashmir would be a part of Pakistan.
I can only imagine the view - points of those who live there. How deep rooted their love for Pakistan maybe, and how deep rooted their hate for India must be.
I would call this psychological warfare, and psychological conditioning and brainwashing of the citizens of Kashmir by Pakistan. Credit where it is due, Pakistan! This is a genius strategy and it has worked marvellously. To use the citizens of the Country you wish to occupy as your pawns to fight your battles, to further your own political and financial agendas. It is nothing short of genius, but is it right?
You cannot be a Kashmir patriot without hating India. True patriotism, in my opinion, is furthering the benefit of your own Country, yet here we are furthering the benefits of Pakistan at the expense of our own identity and land.
Young men from Azad Kashmir, my family included, grow up aspiring to be part of the Pakistani Army to fight India, and protect Pakistan, who they fail to see as an aggressor on our lands.
When did this happen? It happened from birth. The moment you are born on the soil of Azad Kashmir, you are conditioned wanting to be part of Pakistan. Almost like little drones you have been programmed to this way of thinking.
I was born and raised in the UK, the outreach of psychological conditioning has crossed oceans to the young Kashmiris who live here and who regretfully hold the same view. They wave the Pakistani flag, they will hate India, all for no other reason other than what they are blindly following.
Well whats wrong with that, I can hear you ask? What is wrong with wanting to be part of Pakistan. In short . Everything. Is Pakistan a foe or a friend? Well up till recently, I would have said, friend; but those would have been the echoes of the brainwashing. But now after reading and researching only a little, I can make an informed decision and say Pakistan is the foe.
Yes, yes I can say, Pakistan is not guilty of human right abuses to the extent of India, but they are guilty. Unlike on the other side of the divide, there is no militancy going on in Azad Kashmir against Pakistan, hence no need for Pakistan to commit human rights abuses.
They are guilty of encroaching upon our land, making decisions for our people to serve their own selfish interests. They are guilty on many accounts and this book, a synopsis of history; will make all of that clear. The guilt of India on human rights abuses does not in any way condone or diminish the guilt of Pakistan. India is not without fault, and nor is Pakistan without blood on its hands.
It is also extremely clever to strike at the chord that ties Kashmir and Pakistan.. Islam. This is not a religious matter, this is not a religious war, religion has nothing to do with this. This is a dispute about land, about the future of more than two million people who are forcibly divided since 1947, about their national identity, aspirations, fundamental rights, and a right to live according to their wishes. Let us not deny the facts, and say what it is.
