Deborah A. Atwood B.A., M.A., is a graduate student in the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at Bristol University, UK. She has worked at the National Museum of Bermuda (incorporating the Bermuda Maritime Museum), and carried out archaeological and archival research with the Bermuda National Trust. Her current research interests include conflict archaeology, confinement art, and cultural heritage tourism. She took the M.A. in Historical Archaeology at Bristol University, where she is now studying for a PhD in Archaeology and Anthropology. Email:
Margaret Bagwell B.A., M.A., is a graduate student at Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC, USA. She took the M.A. in Historical Archaeology at Bristol University, and has carried out archaeological research in England. Her current research interests include heritage preservation issues during times of natural disaster. email:
Esther Breithoff B.A., M.A., took the M.A. in Historical Archaeology at the University of Bristol, where she is now a postgraduate student. Her PhD research focuses on the material culture and conflict landscapes of the Chaco War (19325) between Bolivia and Paraguay. Her wider research interests include Latin American dictatorships, wars, and indigenous struggles. email:
Martin Brown B.A., MiFA, FSA, is a professional archaeologist working for the UK Ministry of Defence. He is a founder member of No-Mans-Land, an international group involved in archaeological research on sites of the Great War. His current research interests include past and current training landscapes, and the role of cultural heritage as it interacts with the military, both in conflict and as a manifestation of military ethos. He is currently studying for a PhD in Archaeology and Anthropology at Bristol University.
Susannah Callow B.A., M.A., took the M.A. in Historical Archaeology at the University of Bristol, where she is currently PhD student. Her research interests focus on the concepts and uses of human and animal bones and body parts in recent conflicts.
Paul Cornish is a Senior Curator in the Department of Exhibits at the Imperial War Museum, London. He has a longstanding interest in the material culture of conflict, and is currently involved with the regeneration of the IWM aimed to coincide with the 2014 centenary of the First World War. He has published widely on various aspects of modern conflict, and his two most recent books are Machine Guns and the Great War (2009), and with Nicholas J. Saunders, Contested Objects: Material Memories of the Great War (2009).
Julie Dunne MSci, took her Masters degree in Archaeological Science at Bristol University, where she is now conducting PhD research in the Organic Geochemistry Unit. She is currently studying the effects of climate and environmental change on Holocene subsistence strategies in Libya. Her current research interests also include the archaeology of conflict and modern day burial grounds. email:
Emily Glass B.Sc., M.A., took the M.A. in Historical Archaeology at Bristol University, from where she currently divides her time between PhD research and professional archaeological work. She has been involved with numerous national and international fieldwork projects, including 10 seasons at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Butrint in Albania. It was this experience which led to her doctoral research into the materiality and conflict landscape of Communist Albanian Defences.
Niamh Keating B.A., M.A., is an independent scholar. She took her M.A. in Historical Archaeology at Bristol University, and currently works in the Education and Outreach Department of Wandsworth Museum, London. Her current research interests include war memorialisation in conflict situations, institutional archaeology in colonial and neo-colonial contexts, and the archaeology of medicine. email:
Matthew Leonard B.A., M.A., took his M.A. in Twentieth-Century Conflict Archaeology at the University of Bristol, where is currently undertaking PhD research into the First World Wars subterranean landscapes along the Western Front. He is also carrying out broader archaeological and anthropological Great War-related research in Belgium and France. Email:
Gunnar Maus M.A., is a graduate student in the Department of Geography at Christian-Albrechts-Universitt zu Kiel, Germany, where he also teaches Human Geography. His PhD is concerned with memory, heritage, and militarized landscapes of the Cold War. He took the M.A. in Historical Archaeology at Bristol University. email:
Cassie Newland B.A., M.A., PhD, is part-time lecturer in the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Bristol, where she recently completed her doctoral research on the archaeology of telecommunications. She also works as a freelance archaeological consultant. Her recent projects include the archaeology of mobile phones, the telegraph, and In Transit, the excavation of a 1991 Ford Transit Van. Liam J.S. Powell B.A., M.A, is an independent scholar. He has carried out archaeological research in the UK and the United States. His current research interests include landscapes of modern conflict, and the relationship between modern heritage management and homelessness and squatting. He gained his B.A. (Hons) in Theology and Religious Studies, and his M.A. in Twentieth-Century Conflict Archaeology at the University of Bristol.
