Franco Bianchini graduated in comparative politics at the University of Florence. He is currently completing a Ph.D. thesis in the Department of Government at Manchester University. He is the author of various articles on the relationship between culture and socialist party politics.
Livin Bollaert graduated in physical education at the University of Ghent and obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Brussels. He also holds a masters degree in leisure studies from l'Universit Libre de Bruxelles. He is currently professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, director of the Leisure Studies Department, and president of the Educational Board of the University. He is president of the Dutch-Flemish Working Group in Leisure Studies and a member of ELRA, WLRA, and ICHPER. He has published studies in the field of physical education, leisure studies, education, and strategic planning.
Peter Bramham graduated in economics at the London School of Economics and subsequently received a sociology doctorate from Leeds University. His research interests are in the area of leisure, policing, and deviance and he has published in the fields of criminology, leisure, and leisure policy. He is a member of a collaborative project researching young people in Bradford.
Eric Corijn graduated in science and philosophy at the Universities of Ghent and Brussels, and attended Art School in Brussels. He followed a postgraduate course on futures research at the State University of Utrecht (Netherlands). He is currently working at the Centre for Leisure Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is the author of several articles on leisure theory and leisure education, as well as on such diverse subjects as sociobiology, cultural studies, political economy, and basic education. He has edited books on sociobiology, Marxism, and the future of labour.
Dominique Danau graduated in sociology at the University of Brussels. She is currently working at the European Centre for Work and Society (Maastricht-Brussels). She has published papers in the field of sport, and leisure satisfaction of the elderly.
Jean-Michel Dewailly graduated from l'Universit des Sciences et Techniques de Lille in geography. He completed his doctoral thesis at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1984 on the topic of Tourisme et loisirs dans le Nord/Pas-de-Calais, which has subsequently been published as a text. He is now matre de conference at l'Universit des Sciences et Techniques de Lille. His primary research interests lie in the fields of tourism and regional planning, and he has published several papers on this topic relating to northern Europe.
Adri Dietvorst graduated in human geography and history in 1964 and is associate professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen. His research interests include theoretical geography and spatial aspects of recreation and tourism. He has published on these themes in a variety of German, Dutch, and American academic journals. He has recently published a book on the role of leisure and tourism in the inner city.
Sue Glyptis graduated in geography at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1974, and obtained her Ph.D. in geography at the University of Hull in 1979 for a thesis entitled Countryside visitors: site use and leisure lifestyles. From 1977 to 1981 she was employed as a research officer at the Sports Council, involved in the management of a wide range of research projects on sport and recreation provision. Since 1981 she has lectured in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science at Loughborough University of Technology and she is now senior lecturer in Recreation Management and Leisure Studies. She teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate recreation management courses and is involved in research supervision and contract research. Her main interests are leisure lifestyles, recreational deprivation and the leisure needs of particular social groups, and countryside recreation.
