Each Applicant for Citizenship undergoesthree tests: 1. Test of Civics/History/Government, Reading& Writing a. Civics/history test of 10 questions chosenout of a possible 100 b. Reading applicants will be asked to readout loud a sample sentence from a fixed set of possiblesentences c. 2. 2.

Ability to Communicate in English a. The Immigration Officer will review yourapplication with you. Traditionally, this takes place after youpass your test. This portion can be difficult for those that do notspeak English well. b. 3. 3.

Eligibility a review of an Applicantspersonal history a. The Immigration Officer will review yourentire immigration file and determine if you have the propercharacter to become a citizen. The Officer will review your criminalbackground checking if you were ever arrested/detained/stopped bya Police Officer at home or abroad. 1. For the Immigration Service- to bestopped, arrested or detained means precisely that any time aPolice agency would take your fingerprints a. Regardless of the eventual outcome of thecase or what you think it means to be arrested you will beexpected to admit to all times that you were arrested/stopped ordetained by a Police agency. i. Sometimes applicants believe that anarrest means serving time in jail.

But the Immigration Service hasa much broader interpretation including anytime that a Policeagency would take your fingerprints and record the information. ii. The Immigration Service obtains criminalbackground information on individuals primarily from the FBI.
