Let me tell you a little story about The Happy Broadcast.

The year was 2018. If you landed on Earth from a different planet and you read or watched the news, you would have thought that the world was a terrible place.

The news was so focused on the negative things happening, that it was easy to miss all the many positive things going on.

That is when artist and creator Mauro Gatti decided to use his talents to try to spread positivity.

Mauro began to draw the good news and share it on social media. He drew about animals being saved from extinction, illustrated news about how technology helping the environment, highlighted news about people taking action to plant entire forests, and many more real world news events that show positive actions being taken to improve our world.

Before long a movement was born. Millions of people began to follow, share, and comment on the many wonderful things that Mauro was bringing to light with his drawings.

A few years later, Mauro met Keith Bonnici, a fan who was fascinated by the way that Mauro was able to build such a vibrant community around positivity.

Mauro and Keith quickly became friends and began to talk about how positivity can be so powerful in helping improve someoneshappiness. After some time, the two joined together and went on a mission to try to improve the mental health as many people as they could by promoting positivity.

In early 2021, the two decided that reading positive news alone was not enough and that more could be done.

That is when they began to work on a mental health and wellness project called WHOLE. A short while later they launched the WHOLE mobile app, a place where people can mantain a positive outlook and participate in a number of science-backed activities that can help boost their mental health and happiness. Today, both The Happy Broadcast and WHOLE are places that people spend time engaging with positivity while working together in improve their own mental health, which collectively can help impact the world and the many wonderful creatures in it.

1. There are already 10 countries whose electricity comes from 97% to 100% renewable energy sources.

Costs for renewable energy continue to decline each year as technologies continue to develop and become more efficient. Albania, Bhutan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Iceland, Namibia, Nepal, Norway, and Paraguay are countries whose electric power generation comes from 97 to 100% renewable energy sources.

Countries are using a variety of renewable energy sources. Scotland, for example, is very heavy on wind and has managed to get to 90% renewables. Kenya gets 44% of its power from geothermal, whereas in Albania most of the power comes from hydroelectric, which is relatively cheap, reliable, and can be generated any time of day in any season.

Moving toward 100% renewable energy sources will become easier over time, as wind, solar, and other renewables become more efficient and battery storage technologies become capable of storing larger quantities of energy for use when needed.

2. One school in Maryland is sending kids to meditation, not detention!

In a move that changes the way children are disciplined in schools, Robert W. Coleman Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland, has established its Mindful Moment program, which sends children to a mindful moment room when they misbehave. Children sent to the mindful moment room are then given the opportunity to stretch and practice yoga and meditation, with the aim of encouraging them to wind down and relax in the face of stressful situations.

The program was created through the schools partnership with a nonprofit organization called The Holistic Life Foundation. The room includes a staff member who helps the children work through the issue that has caused them to misbehave. The success of the program is evident, and school principal Carlillian Thompson says that he now rarely has to speak to students over disciplinary issues!

3. New carbon capture facility in Scotlandwill remove one million tons of CO2 from the air each year.

In a breakthrough moment for carbon capture technologies, a new facility set to open in Scotland will remove up to one million tons of carbon from the air each year. That is the equivalent carbon that would be absorbed by 40 million trees! The facility will be the largest in the world, and all the absorbed carbon will be deposited in storage sites under the sea.
