Housing Policies in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union
A commitment to providing an acceptable level of accommodation for all has meant that housing has enjoyed a high place on the agendas of most socialist countries. However, this place has not been undisputed and at various times in the different countries of the eastern bloc, housing has had considerably differing degrees of priority.
This book examines the issues related to housing in eastern Europe. It describes the broad distinctions and similarities in the situation in east and west Europe, outlines trends in housing conditions and construction since the war and discusses the relevance of factors external to the housing market. The book also places an emphasis on the various eastern bloc economic and social systems and discusses likely future trends.
Its geographical coverage is broad and it provides a wealth of information that will be invaluable for anyone working in this area.
