Thank you for purchasing this companion workbook to Beyond Willpower: The Secret Principle to Achieving Success in Life, Love, and Happiness.

By doing so, you have shown that you already understand that Beyond Willpower is not just a quick read you can toss back on the shelf. If it is to be of any benefit, it must be thoroughly understood and ultimately put into practice.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing people put these principles into practice, because I know from the marrow of my bones that they saved my lifephysically, emotionally, spiritually, financially, literally, metaphorically, and in any other way that you can possibly imagine. When my wife, Hope, looked in my eyes after my aha experience, she could see that I was not the same man, and within six months everything that was going down the toilet did a 180-degree turn and went through the stratospherewithout effort!

I am passionate about sharing these principles not only because of what they have done in my own life, but also because of what I have seen them do in the lives of others. It has taken me twenty-five years of working with clients to assemble the toolbox that will allow you to do this at home in your pajamas. However, in the process I have seen thousands of clients in all fifty states and 158 countries find healing and success in their career, marriage and relationships, health, finances, and emotional well-being.

Out of all of those people, I can count on my two hands the number of people for whom this process didnt work, and they fall into two categories. In the first category are people who dont buy the theory and because of that never put the principles into practice. In the second are people who buy the theory, but for one reason or another just never apply the principle or the tools. The common denominator between the two groups is that they just dont do it. As I said in the introduction to Beyond Willpower, you dont even have to believe these principles for them to work, but you do have to put them into practice. If you do the exercises and practice the tools, it is almost impossible for them not to work.

It is a bold claim, but as I saidhold me to it! You just have to let me hold you to your partactually doing it! I wish with all my heart that I could personally be right there with you while you take your first steps, as I have for my counseling clients. Since I just cant do that for everyone who reads Beyond Willpower, I have put this workbook together to be the next best thing. I intend it to be a dedicated place for you to do the difficult but rewarding work of putting pen to paper and clarifying your thoughts. It will serve as a window into your own heart, and allow you to see patterns and track progress. But most of all, it will slow you down enough to actually do the things that I ask you to do.

Companion Volume

One thing I would like to make clear from the beginning: please understand that this is a companion volume to Beyond Willpower, and it is not meant to be read independently of the book. If you dont have a copy of the Beyond Willpower, you will need get a copy, because I will assume that you have read it, and I will often refer you back to passages in the book.

Special Instructions for the E-Book Version of the Workbook

This version of the workbook was designed for those who prefer the convenience of an e-reader. I have made every effort to preview this e-book in as many different readers as possible, but it is difficult to get such a heavily formatted manuscript to display perfectly on every device. If you have one of the older or smaller devices, you may need to use the zoom feature to comfortably read some of the graphics.

Since it is a workbook, you will simply need to keep a separate notebook or journal at hand to write your responses to the questions and exercises along the way. Alternatively, you could use any note-taking app that happens to be on your device. Throughout the workbook I will say things like write your response below, and there you will find blank lines that look like this:

Since there is no easy way to print from an e-reader, I wanted to provide you a better alternative to trying to reproduce the chart by hand. You can print them, fill them out by hand, and then slip them into your notebook or scan them back into your note-taking app. I will provide the link again when a chart or table like that comes up.

Practical Recommendations

Some of you may be wondering if you should read Beyond Willpower first in its entirety and then come back and complete the workbook, or if you should take it one chapter at a time, completing the workbook as you go. I think you should do whichever is most comfortable for you, just as long as you read the material in Beyond Willpower before you attempt to do the relevant exercises in the workbook.

Remember that Beyond Willpower is a different kind of book. Sure, you can read it in three or four hours like any other book, but it will just fly right by you. Read it slowly. Take time to pray and meditate over the things that you dont understand until you feel like youve got it. It took me twenty-five years to come up with this material, and what I cover in a single chapter may have taken me years to understand.

My last recommendation is that you dont go straight from Part I to Part II immediately. Part I is the theory, and Part II is the practical application. Dont be in too much of a rush to put all of this into practice. If it has the effect in your life that I know it can, you will have the rest of your life to live this out. I recommend that you take a break after chapter 3 (the end of Part I), and really take time to allow the theoretical material to seep in.

The best way to do this is to pray and meditate over each of the seven bullet points at the end of chapter 1, beginning at the bottom of page 47 of Beyond Willpower. Not only are those points a good summary of the theory, but they will also give you the best chance of having a transformational aha experience for yourself, which is much faster and more effective than all the tools put together. Paradoxically, if you rush too quickly to the tools in Part II, you may inadvertently be taking the long way to your ultimate goal.
