Melanie Barnum is a psychic, medium, intuitive counselor, life coach, workshop presenter, and hypnotist who has been practicing professionally for more than fifteen years. Melanie is also an Angelspeake Facilitator, and a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) and the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT). She lives in Connecticut.

Following your heart is not always an easy thing to do, especially when you are going against what is considered the norm in society. Having incredible teachers and like-minded peers has helped propel me toward the life I know I was born to live.

Over fifteen years ago I was gently guidedactually more like shoved, by forces I couldnt see or touchinto pursuing a psychic career. This push jump-started me on a quest to fulfill this tug on my soul, which was clearly something greater than Id ever experienced. Luckily, I was not the first to travel this path. A great many individuals with incredible gifts have paved the way for all of us to tap in to the natural intuition that is part of our birthright. All I can say is, Thank You!

I have been fortunate enough to participate in many workshops and events with amazing people who have unknowingly influenced my psychic world. These incredible earth guides deserve appreciation. Ive studied with, and often played with, remarkable intuitives and readers such as Sonia Choquette, John Holland, James Van Praagh, Elizabeth Harper, Brian Weiss, David Morehouse, Raymond Moody, Kathleen Deyo, and Rachel Pollack.

Authors in the intuitive field also deserve praise and gratitude, as I took their stories to heart and at times compared my life with theirs to help me understand what I was experiencing. There have been so many over the years, including those Ive studied with, but I will try, with my feeble memory, to include them! Jeffrey Wands, Colette Baron Reid, Terry Iacuzzo, Terry and Linda Jamison, Sylvia Browne, and John Edward have shared their lives through the pages of their books. Their honest and often hilarious narratives encouraged me to share my story.

Introduction:
Who I Am and What I Do

I understand what you are saying, but none of it makes sense! my client Anna said to me as she sat in my office. Im not traveling to Africa, and Im definitely not moving out of the country!

We were in my office, and I was giving Anna a psychic reading. She was looking at me as if I had two heads. The information I was receiving psychically was not ringing true for her. Anna, together with her life partner, Sis, owned a thriving deli and a catering business. They were in no position to pack up and leave the United States, nor did they have any desire to do so.

It sounds crazy. I realize that, I answered, but I have to share it with you as I get it.

I was receiving psychic symbols, pictures in my mind, as I was talking with Anna. What I saw was the American flag being taken down off of a flagpole with a different flag being raised in its place, though I couldnt decipher the country of origin for the new flag. I also saw a cartoon image of a map with dotted lines jutting out of the country. After that I saw elephants and a dry landscape. In the background were giraffes.

Do you have any aspirations to go on a big game hunt or a safari? Im feeling you connected to animals in a major way, though I dont feel your intentions are to harm them, I continued.

No, but thats all right. Dont worry about it, she replied, the look of disbelief now coupled with a look of amusement on her face.

Just be open to the possibility that this can happen, and happen within a couple of years, I urged, chuckling, and we moved on to other topics.

Almost two years later to the day, I heard from a mutual friend that Anna and Sis had indeed packed up their household and moved to Canada. They moved so that Anna could attend veterinary school. Not only was she changing her career and becoming a vet to take care of domestic animals, she also went on a safari in Africa to learn about large-animal medicine!

The symbolic impressions I had received during her reading were dead on. I only needed to interpret and believe in them. Though Anna and I couldnt imagine what I was telling her would actually happen, she recognized the accuracy of the symbolic predictions when they did indeed come true. Symbols are everywhere; we need only appreciate their value.

I am psychic. I am a medium. Im pretty normal. All my life my brother teased me about being average, liking Top Forty music, and wearing pretty much what everyone else wore. Average is where Im comfortable, where I fit in. To me, being psychic is pretty normal, too. After all, everyone has some intuitive ability.
