CHAPTER 1

End Time Parallels of the Days of Lot and Noah

There were giants in the earth in those days;and also after that, when the sons of Godcame in unto the daughters of men, and theybear children to them, the same became mightymen which were of old, men of renown.

- GENESIS 6:4 (KJV)

O NE OF THE greatest mysteries in Scripture is the Genesis narrative that reveals a race of superhuman men called giants that once roamed the planet. There is consensus among numerous scholars that these giants were the offspring of fallen angels who took upon themselves the form of men and lusted after the beautiful women. They engaged in sexual activity and procreated a strange breed of beings on Earth that were considered demi-godspart human and part divine. These sons of God were angels sent to Earth to teach men to follow the Lord, but they became enslaved by the sinful atmosphere sometime after they were sent to Earth.

One of two words translated as giants in Genesis 6:4 is nephilim, from the root naphal, meaning to fall. Perhaps this refers to the fall of the angels responsible for their birth. The New Testament tells us that these fallen angels are now bound in the lower compartment of hell (KJV), which in the Greek is Tartarusthe lowest hellwhere they await the final judgment (see 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 6).

Notice a prophetic parallel. There were fallen ones on the earth prior to Noahs flood; and Paul wrote that, prior to the return of Christ, a falling away (defection from truth) will occur before the man of sin, the Antichrist, is revealed (2 Thess. 2:3). As in the days of Noah, at the time of the end, the fallen ones will be a central feature as people defect from the truth. The last event the flood generation saw was water sweeping the earth. Daniel wrote that, when the Antichrist assumes control, the end will be with a flood (Dan. 9:26). This refers to unceasing wars and desolation that will span the entire world, all at once.

MODIFICATION OF HUMANS

When counting from the creation of Adam to the approximate year of the flood, we come to the year 1,656. Moses wrote that there were ten generations of men from Adam to Noah, and recorded the age of each man when his first son was born.

Here are the ages of the fathers when their first sons were born:

We are uncertain how many children were in each individual family, but we know men lived much longer. The longest living pre-flood man, Methuselah, died in his 969th year (Gen. 5:27). Some scholars and researchers have attempted to estimate the possible number of people that lived on the earth the moment the flood erupted. It is suggested that, if each man had an average of six children, with the lifespan at that time, there could have been as many as 235 million individuals living on the earth.

The one unanswerable question is this: how many giants were living on the earth before the flood? Throughout the years, especially in the 1800s, newspapers around the world carried reports that bones of giants were found in caves, excavations, Indian tombs, and so forth. There is evidence that, in the early days of man, giants were scattered around the world. There may have been tens of thousands of giants by the time God executed the flood judgment. God took notice of the worlds corrupt condition, as the Genesis text indicates:

And God saw the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

GEN. 6:5 (KJV)

The word imagination in Hebrew is yetser and refers to a form, but figuratively can allude to conception. This idea of the conception in his heart being evil continually can mean that seed thoughts and imaginations were evil; but it can also be a clue that men were caught up in this man-giant conception sweeping the world. This procreative manipulation not only affected humans, but a careful study of specific phrases in Genesis 6 indicates that some form of manipulation also involved animals. God warned that He would destroy both man and beast, because I am sorry that I have made them (Gen. 6:7). It is likely that the sexual perversion had spread to bestiality, an abominable sin that led to the death penalty under the Law of God (Lev. 20:15). Another verse that exposed this corruption of the animal kingdom is Genesis 6:12: God looked upon the earth and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. Notice both men and beastall fleshwas corrupt, or in a decaying process (especially in a moral sense).

While the Genesis account does not elaborate on this corrupted flesh, it is mentioned in the book of Jashera book referred to twice in the Bible (Josh. 10:13; 2 Sam. 1:18). A copy of the book of Jasher was discovered and translated in 1840. The writer, commenting on the flood narrative, gave a hint of the manipulation involving animals:

And the sons of men in those days took from the cattle of the earth, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and taught the mixture of animals of one species with the other, in order wherewith to provoke the Lord; and the Lord saw that the whole earth was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon earth, all men and all animals.

In this narrative, we see a prophetic parallel with todays genetic manipulation of DNA. Researchers have used the DNA of both animals and humans as they attempt to clone an exact replica of animals or humans. Scientists have cloned lambs, and have been experimenting with human DNA in their efforts to clone a child with a specific eye color, hair color, and gender. They suggest that eventually, parents will have the ability to choose the physical appearance of their child through DNA manipulation and genetic modification. Many researchers consider this a great scientific breakthrough. However, it appears to others that humans are attempting to take the place of God.

There is neither biblical or sacred religious history to prove the following, but some biblical researchers believe that undocumented mingling of the seeds led to strange creatures being birthed that had both human and animal features. They suggest that some of the early signs in the heaven, as well as Greek and other mythologies, are based upon these genetic mixtures that were part human and part animal. We do not know for certain how the odd images of ancient false gods and goddesses originated; but we do know that giants were the central cause of the flood. Had God permitted the fallen angels to continue their perversion without wiping out most of the human race, all flesh would have been perverted and the world as we know it would not exist.
