Acknowledgments

I feel blessed for the opportunity to write this book, which offers vital information for optimizing the health, wellness, and longevity of every being. We all deserve to be healthy and to live long lives, and we all deserve to know the simple truth of authentic natural medicine and healing.

This book exists because of the help, encouragement, and grace of many people. My most treasured supporters and my most precious gifts in this lifetime are my children, Aaron and Gabrielle. My son, who was a key researcher for this book and now is studying medicine, is not only my best friend but also a compassionate, understanding, and brilliant human being. I adore him beyond comprehension. I am so proud of him, and so proud to call him my son. My daughter is the sweet, precious light in my life. As I wrote this book, she sat with me day and night, doing her homework, reading, or serenading me with her exquisite violin. She was there throughout, serving me tea, smiling, hugging me, and imparting her wonderful sweetness. Her sublime energy, her encouragement, and merely her presence helped make this book complete.

I also want to acknowledge my favorite uncle and aunt, Seymour and Miriam Wagner, for their compassion, love, and support; my twin brother, Dr. Ira Wagner, for his selfless service to others, which I find most inspiring; and Dr. Deborah Cutler, my former husbands sister and still part of my family, whose heartfelt friendship I will always value.

Other essential people in my life, without whom this book never would have been published, are my literary agent, Bonnie Solow, and my business manager, Gina Del Vecchio. I dont know what I would do without them. Bonnie is always there for me, always focused, supportive, positive, and strongone of the most admired and inspirational women I know. She has made it all come true. Gina, in her indisputable authenticity, always reflects my purest dreams with a strength of conviction and truth that astonishes me each day we work together. She is the thread that holds together BioSET, overseeing so much of my work that is disseminated to health professionals and the general public.

I thank my best friend, Deborah Santana, the purest angel in my life. She is not only beautiful, kind, compassionate, and selfless, she also emanates the highest level of integrity.

My publisher, Rodale, has blessed me with the opportunity to communicate my passion in this manuscript. Tami Booth Corwin was the most essential element. She understood my vision and my dedication. I remember talking with Tami for the first time at Los Angeles Airport; I think I was beaming with enthusiasm and excitement while we spoke. She is the spirit of this book. I thank her for her trust and her understanding of the importance of enzymes in healing.

The other person at Rodale who was there since the beginning of this project was Susan Berg. She was simply a joy to work with, and I feel as though she has been an angel watching over me.

I am so fortunate to have found Ken Howard to help shape the content of the book. I am in awe of his talent and his ability to edit my words while imparting my voice and my enthusiasm. His genius is too wonderful for words. I am also grateful for the contributions of Nancy Faas and Joy Parker, who helped with editing early on.

This book would not have been complete without the work of Lisa Maloof and Dr. Marc Girod. They, along with my son, Aaron, were steadfast in researching their assigned chapters and subjects. Thanks also to Lynn Greaves and Karen Samson, who have helped in so many ways.

Dr. Elson Haas generously shared his expertise in the area of natural healing and answered many of my questions as I wrote this book. I will always value his knowledge and support. Peter Miller, a wonderful and most brilliant friend, inspired me with his encouraging words and warmth. Dr. Wayne Dyer and Dr. David Hawkins bestowed invaluable wisdom and truth through their books and audio-tapes. They taught me over and over again what true healing is really about.

I am honored to have Dr. Jeremy Kaslow as my coauthor for this book. His understanding of enzymes, and his use of them in his practice, complements my own. He also shares my commitment to the importance of optimal digestion. Thank you, Dr. Kaslow.

Finally, I thank Dr. Roy Martina for his loving support, unconditional love, and radiant healing energy. He opened my heart again to the Truth. His light and love healed my soul and guided me back to finding my service as a healer in this life. I will forever cherish his friendship and will never forget his kind spirit.

Dr. Ellen Cutler

Introduction

F OR ME as a doctor, healer, teacher, and parent, the opportunity to write a book on enzyme nutrition and health is a dream come true. Literally not a day goes by that I dont mention enzyme nutrition or share my personal enzyme supply, which I always carry in my purse.

My study of enzyme nutrition and therapy began about 20 years ago, and enzymes have been part of my daily nutritional protocol ever since. My colleagues, students, family, and friends jokingly call me the Empress of Enzymes. Probably no one else has as much passion for the subject as I do or is more qualified to write a book about it than I am. For years, Ive been telling people that enzymes would become well known in the near future; in fact, they would be regarded as the revolutionary medicine of the 21st century. Now that the 21st century is here, its the perfect time to share the secret of these miracle supplements.
