About the Cover
Our cover photo comes from the David HoffmanBoaz postcardcollection which is - photo 1

Our cover photo comes from the David Hoffman/Boaz postcardcollection which is part of the Smithsonian Institution's NationalMuseum of American History. The 1898 photo features a white woman in fine Victorian clothing perched on a fancy chair while feeding a crying, naked, African American infant like an animal. How many collections of painfully racist photos are still sitting in attics throughout the United States?

This disturbing photo is an appropriate analogy for the thesis of this book. We continue to be fed by those who despise us and seek to prevent us from living into our full potential. They benefit from our stunted condition.

The author wishes to thank David Myers of Melanation Design Works for his wonderful cover design.

Educator, historian, and author, Dr. Edward Robinson, Jr., was anadvisor to the founders of the African Genesis Institute. He created the Institute's primary curriculum and served as the elder to its staff and participants. His life journey was set in motion when his maternal grandmother told him of the story of his family'sancestral origins in Benin City, Nigeria. He would spend his lifeuncovering the truth about African people. These efforts would result in the infusion of African and African American history intothe curriculum of Philadelphia's public schools.

Dr. Robinson obtained his undergraduate degree from Virginia State College, his Juris Doctor degree from Temple University School of Law, and an honorary doctorate from Virginia State University. He managed two African American owned insurance companies, serving as the president of the Provident Home Life Insurance Company and the vice-president of the North Carolina

Mutual Insurance Company. He also served on the board ofdirectors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

Dr. Robinson's study led him to articulate the root cause of the problems that disproportionately affect people of African descent worldwide. Africans have been programmed by Europeans to hate everything African about ourselves. Dr. Robinson argued that fourthings needed to be done in order for African Americans toovercome the psychic trauma caused by this extensive misinformation campaign, our enslavement, and racial subjugation:

1.Raise race esteem by teaching ancient African history;
2.Increase financial and academic literacy (leaders read andreaders lead);
3.Promote healthy lifestyles; and
4.Encourage entrepreneurship (make jobs don't take jobs).

One of the key mechanisms towards Dr. Robinson's goal was thisbook, which he inspired, 7 Little White Lies. In authoring thisbook, we honor this illustrious ancestor. In his memory we seek torestore the rightful place of our African foremothers and forefathers.

INTRODUCTION

noun:
plural lies
Something untrue that is said or written to deceive someone.1

little white lie idiom:
plural little white lies
A small, usually harmless lie; a fib.2A lie about a small or unimportant matter that someone tells to avoid hurting another person.3

What is a lie? What are its effects? Can a lie be more dangerous than a physical injury? Can it be more lasting and harmful than broken bones? There have been many things that have been saidabout people of African descent that number amongst the vilest of human utterances. How are African Americans affected by these mistruths?

A 2012 study by Indiana University published in CommunicationsResearch aptly describes the harm done by the false, negative representations of people of African descent.4 The researchers surveyed nearly 400 boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 12 from an array of racial and cultural backgrounds. They were investigating whether there was a correlation between the time the children spent watching television and their self-esteem. Their findings were more stark and disturbing than virtually anyone could have expected.

While nearly all of the subgroups of youth in the study saw declines in self-esteem as the hours watching television increased, one group seemed to benefit from more time in front of the TV. Young boys of European descent who watch television feast ondepictions of themselves as powerful, wealthy, attractive, and incontrol of their lives. They see themselves portrayed as superheroes, secret agents, gods, cowboys, astronauts, soldiers, scientists, kings, and lady-killers. While they aren't always depicted as heroes, they are almost always the main character in these representations. They have a choice. White boys were the
