T his book has really had its way with me! As many authors know, you must become the thing you are writing about; you must inhale and digest the content until it takes shape in you as your juices and cells. For me, this came in stages.

In large part, I want to thank my mother, Skip Peirce Eby, whose death at the end of 2015 put me into a crisis mode that catalyzed greater transparency in so many ways. The writing process, which took most of 2016, was steeped in the spaciousness she left. I hope she is looking in on me and seeing how I have made positive use of her transition to the higher realms; hopefully, I am passing on her presence, absence, and now her refined presence to many others.

I also want to thank Guy Eby, my stepfather, for his unflagging good humor and moral support. He is a literal real-life hero, several times over, and he has inspired me. Thanks, too, to my sister Paula, who is always there for me with her wit and warm diplomacy.
