Want to see the future? It is brighter than you think.

What we believe about tomorrow determines how we live today. As Christians debate how to faithfully engage with our rapidly changing world, our vision of the future has never been more important.

But rather than providing a clear sense of purpose for our lives, popular Christian ideas about the future steal it from us by saying our work in the world, apart from ministry, has no eternal value. Is it any wonder why young adults are less interested in church, or why a culture desperate for meaning and hope dismisses our message?

In Futureville, Skye Jethani offers us a vision-shifting glimpse of the world of tomorrow described in Scripture. He reveals how a biblical vision of the future can transform every persons work with a sense of purpose and dignity today.

Futureville is a smart, inspiring call to cultivate the order, beauty, and abundance that reflects the heart and vision of God for our world.

PRAISE FOR SKYE JETHANI AND FUTUREVILLE
My friend Skye has written another terrific book. This book wont make you want to just think about what the world looks like, but how youll shape it. Its about gains and losses and deciding to try rather than just watch.

When our countrys leaders seek to plot a moral and cultural path into the future, one of the key people they look to is Skye Jethani. With Futureville , Skye illuminates a creative and practical way forward on some of the most challenging issues of our time. Dont miss this book.

In his latest book, Skye Jethani brings refreshing clarity to a vital area of the biblical narrative too often ignored or misunderstood in the contemporary church. What does the Bible actually teach about the end of all things? What does our eternal future really look like? And how should that knowledge inform our lives today? Skye cuts through the clutter of historical baggage and pop-theological confusion to recapture a biblical vision for our work and our lives. Futureville is a wonderfully lucid, profoundly impacting work. I cant imagine any believer not benefiting from this clarifying picture of our present realityand eternal futurein the Kingdom of God.

Few Christians understand and can navigate the tricky intersection of faith and culture. Skye Jethani is one of the thoughtful few. He knows that understanding the future is key to overcoming our pasts and flourishing in the present. Futureville is one of the most hopeful visions for discovering purpose and meaning in the here and now as we pioneer frontier of the not yet. Read this book expectantly, for it will help you unlock a life of significance that exceeds your wildest expectations.
J ONATHAN M ERRITT , AUTHOR , J ESUS IS B ETTER T HAN Y OU I MAGINED
Every Christian is called upon to work for the Lord rather than for men. In a fallen world this can be difficult. In Futureville , Skye Jethani sets out to reconfigure the vision of the future and applies that new vision to Christian vocation. This book is winsome, helpful, and a must-read.
E D S TETZER , PRESIDENT , L IFE W AY R ESEARCH
In a world that desperately needs them, Skye Jethani is one of our true public intellectuals. With Futureville , Skye gives us not only an honest, astute analysis of our present condition, but also a compelling, hopeful vision of the future. Rooted in a kingdom confidence, Futureville offers critical wisdom that will help people direct their lives toward eternity. I recommend this book to all who need to be reminded of the hopeful future that has already been won for us.

K ARA P OWELL , EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR , F ULLER Y OUTH I NSTITUTE AT F ULLER T HEOLOGICAL S EMINARY AND AUTHOR , S TICKY F AITH
Every generation, it seems, gets gloomy and pessimistic about the future of the church. Every generation seems to see the next generation as a downgrade from the old time religion. Skye Jethani proves, once again, that the future of the church isnt bleak but is instead creative, rooted, visionary, and hope-filled. This book will pull you onward and upward, and you will enjoy the ride.

CONTENTS
THE PRESENT
This book is not about the future. It is about the present. It is about determining what sort of life is truly meaningful. It is about rethinking the way we relate to the world and our purpose within it. How we decide what matters today, however, cannot be separated from what we believe about tomorrow. To understand the present-shaping power of the future, lets take a journey back to the Great Depression.
For my grandparents generation, the future began on April 30, 1939. That Sunday, scores of motorists and pedestrians streamed across the newly built Bronx-Whitestone Bridge for the first time. As they crossed the East River, behind them was the past: New York Citya metropolis under the shadow of scarcity and injustice. The Great Depression had festered for a decade and stolen much of the citys wealth and hope. But across the river, in Queens, was the promised land. Ahead of them was the future.
From the bridge they could see a gleaming white spire piercing more than six hundred feet into the sky, and at its base was its massive companiona white globe eighteen stories high and almost two hundred feet in diameter, the largest ever built. The Trylon and Perisphere stood at the heart of the 1939 New York Worlds Fair and served as beacons drawing visitors across the river toward a better future. They were the starkly modern symbols of the fairs theme: The World of Tomorrow.
