Author's Notes
Writing this book has been an emotional and cathartic experience. It put a good deal of my lifetime of working with hundreds of people into some kind of order and spiritual perspective. The reader should be keenly aware that all these stories are composites of people and images I have encountered. The dialogues are reconstructed from my internal reservoir of countless conversations I've had with people over the years. They reflect my style, direction, and tone, but certainly are not actual dialogues. The stories then are fictionalized, because I certainly would never put on display the story of a child's life. I also chose to leave many sad and gruesome details of the kids' lives out of the book. Nevertheless, while these are fictionalized stories and composite characters, anyone who knows the street and the struggles young people encounter will recognize the reality expressed in these tales.
The reader should also be aware that all translations of Hebrew texts were done through my hand from the original. Any errors in the translations can only reflect an oversight on my part, and I offer my sincerest apology for any oversight committed. It can only be laid at my feet and certainly wasn't intentional.
