Christine Heron is a qualified social worker and yoga teacher with many years' experience teaching relaxation skills. She has worked with people with mental health problems, with disabled people and has been a social work lecturer. Christine currently works as a social services manager and undertakes private training in yoga, meditation, relaxation skills and spiritual development.

INTRODUCTION
Relaxation skills have been taught in a wide range of settings for many years. Most often they are to be found in mental health units such as psychiatric hospitals or day centres, but they are also used with a whole range of people, including children, physically disabled people, those with learning disabilities and older people. A wide variety of professionals may undertake the delivery of these skills. Social workers, psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists and care workers may all be involved. Of these, many will have had little or no training in teaching relaxation.
The Relaxation Therapy Manual is a complete guide which enables people who already have basic skills in therapeutic work with clients to use relaxation techniques with both individuals and groups. It can be used by people who have no background in relaxation and also by those who are already experienced and who wish to refine their techniques. The manual is divided into four parts:
