The book you are holding in your hands right now has changed the lives of millions of people. That isnt a claim made lightly, that is something that is proven by the many millions of copies it has sold over the years, and the fact that it is still in print nearly sixty years after its initial publication. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind is considered to be a classic work on how the mind works, and how to use your mind effectively to succeed in ways far beyond your expectations.
What makes this book so profoundly important, and life-changing? There are probably a lot of reasons, but the first and foremost is the fact that Joseph Murphy was able to take complex ideas about the brain, the mind, the subconscious, and our desires, and turn them into an easy-to-read book that is practical, understandable, chockful of important information, and filled with exercises that you can begin immediately. When I say easy-to-read I mean that he takes ideas found in academic journals and studies, as well as his own experiences and those he has taught over the years, and somehow makes it all engrossing to read, nothing dry about this book!
Originally published in 1963 to immediate acclaims and bestseller sales, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind is still one of the leading books on the power of the mind to heal, to bring success, and to help in every area of your life. Youll find as you read the book that the ideas contained within can be applied to you, no matter your age, geographical location, your gender, your background, or any other circumstances. You can find inspiration on nearly every page of this book, and get more out of it each time you read it.
Joseph Murphy himself was a floor sample for these principles. Born in County Cork, Ireland, in 1898 into a largely Catholic family and culture, he left for the United States, became a pharmacist and opened his own drugstore. He later joined the U.S. Army, as a pharmacist, and after his service he decided to study religion and philosophy. His interest also included New Thought principles, especially those from Judge Thomas Troward, a pillar of New Thought philosophy.
By then, Murphy moved to Los Angeles, California, had become an independent minister, and started a church. His Sunday services became so popular he eventually moved them to the famous Wilshire Ebell Theatre, and even then it was standing room only. He also began a weekly radio show, which eventually would reach more than a million listeners each week. Murphy also wrote more than thirty books, which were translated around the world.
If you are picking up this book and reading it for the first time, there are several ways you can approach it. You could, of course, just read it from start to finish, or dip into any chapter that you think sounds intriguing. However, perhaps you might be open to reading it a different way, to get the maximum benefit. I would suggest starting from the first chapter, then rereading it, study it, underline it, write notes in the margin or in your journal, and try to see how the ideas he talks about can be applied to your life. Then, after youve done that, move to the next chapter and do the same, and continue this way through the whole book. In this way, you will not just read the words, but you will be applying them, and therefore embodying them.
Enjoy The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, and I hope you will use it in positive ways to create positive effects in your life.

DO YOU KNOW THE ANSWERS?
Why is one man sad and another man happy? Why is one man joyous and prosperous and another man poor and miserable? Why is one man fearful and anxious and another full of faith and confidence? Why does one man have a beautiful, luxurious home while another man lives out a meager existence in a slum? Why is one man a great success and another an abject failure? Why is one speaker outstanding and immensely popular and another mediocre and unpopular? Why is one man a genius in his work or profession while the other man toils and moils all his life without doing or accomplishing anything worthwhile? Why is one man healed of a so-called incurable disease and another isnt? Why is it so many good, kind religious people suffer the tortures of the damned in their mind and body? Why is it many immoral and irreligious people succeed and prosper and enjoy radiant health? Why is one woman happily married and her sister very unhappy and frustrated? Is there an answer to these questions in the workings of your conscious and subconscious minds? There most certainly is.
REASON FOR WRITING THIS BOOK
It is for the express purpose of answering and clarifying the above questions and many others of a similar nature that motivated me to write this book. I have endeavored to explain the great fundamental truths of your mind in the simplest language possible. I believe that it is perfectly possible to explain the basic, foundational, and fundamental laws of life and of your mind in ordinary everyday language. You will find that the language of this book is that used in your daily papers, current periodicals, in your business offices, in your home, and in the daily workshop. I urge you to study this book and apply the techniques outlined therein; and as you do, I feel absolutely convinced that you will lay hold of a miracle-working power that will lift you up from confusion, misery, melancholy, and failure, and guide you to your true place, solve your difficulties, sever you from emotional and physical bondage, and place you on the royal road to freedom, happiness, and peace of mind. This miracle-working power of your subconscious mind can heal you of your sickness, make you vital and strong again. In learning how to use your inner powers, you will open the prison door of fear and enter into a life described by Paul as the glorious liberty of the sons of God.
RELEASING THE MIRACLE-WORKING POWER
A personal healing will ever be the most convincing evidence of our subconscious powers. Over forty-two years ago I resolved a malignancyin medical terminology it was called a sarcomaby using the healing power of my subconscious mind which created me and still maintains and governs all my vital functions. The technique I applied is elaborated on in this book, and I feel sure that it will help others to trust the same Infinite Healing Presence lodged in the subconscious depths of all men. Through the kindly offices of my doctor friend, I suddenly realized that it was natural to assume that the Creative Intelligence which made all my organs, fashioned my body, and started my heart, could heal its own handiwork. The ancient proverb says, The doctor dresses the wound and God heals it.
