PREFACE

"Its a Muslim's duty to help another Muslim in the community. We didn't know what they were up to. Its guilt by association. "

"We didn't know there were terrorists praying beside us. Mosques are big, open places where Muslims gather from all over. Membership rolls aren't kept. Attendance is fluid. Nobody knew anything about them. "

"Its a Muslim's duty to give zakat donations to brothers in need. We didn't know our money was going to support terrorist activities. "

"There is no room for terrorism in Islam. We condemn it outright. Islam is a religion ofpeace. In fact, the Quran forbids the murder of innocent civilians. "

jihad? jihad does not mean holy war. It means internal struggle to improve oneself, striving against sin to be the best one can be in Allah's eyes. "

"The government is conducting a witch hunt. They're on a fishing expedition for terrorists in the Muslim community. Its McCarthyism all over again!"

He is a pillar in the Muslim community, a respected leader. The charges are racist. "

By now, you have no doubt heard many of these excuses in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Against the body of evidence presented in this book, they will ring hollow. Infiltration, at bottom, is a story of mass deception. A disturbing tale of how the American people have been played for fools, victims of an elaborate fraud orchestrated by the "mainstream" Muslim establishment to protect a faith from due scrutiny, while concealing an underworld that secretly plots to infiltrate and overturn the American system of government.

But brace yourself.

Exposing the fraud requires revealing unpleasant truths. Not just about respected Muslim leaders who use mosques, charities, and other nonprofit groups as cover to support terrorist activities, but also popular political figures in Washington from both parties who protect them, even helping them place agents of influence inside the government.

It also requires revealing unpleasant truths about Islam itself-a touchy subject, to be sure, one that must be approached with cold-eyed logic and dispassion. I can honestly say that I tried to meet that standard in the instances where it was necessary to analyze the Muslim sacred scripture to deconstruct the white lies of "moderate" Muslim leaders, along with the politically correct mythology of their apologists in the media, academia, and politics. I believe I have done the requisite research to tackle this difficult exegesis accurately, fairly, and authoritatively. Not only have I read the Muslim-approved translation and interpretation of the Quran by Abudullah Yusuf Ali, as well as several textbooks on Islam, but I have also read the books on the recommended reading list of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the major Muslim advocacy group in Washington. They include The Islamic Threat: Myth or Reality? and Silent No More: Confronting America's False Images of Islam (which, it is worth noting, lionizes several Muslim leaders now behind bars or under investigation for terrorist ties).

To further aid in demystifying Islam, I have consulted with several experts who genuinely respect Islam on a scholarly and cultural level and have years of experience interacting with both Sunni and Shia Muslims overseas. They include Ret. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Stephen Franke, a former UNSCOM arms control inspector in Baghdad who also served as a personal Arabic interpreter to Ret. Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf during the first Gulf War. Besides being fluent in Arabic, Franke studied Islam at the Islamic Center of Washington under a visiting Saudi legal scholar. He is closely tied to the Iraqi community in Southern California and teaches Arabic cultural awareness to troops deploying to Iraq.

In addition, I have put together a glossary of common Arabic terms and concepts for easy reference at www.SperryFiles.com. It is important to know the vernacular. When American imams praise modern-day shaheeds at Friday sermons, for example, they are talking about martyrs, who are really suicide bombers, who are really terrorists. And when Muslim scholars try to soften the meaning of jihad as an "internal struggle against sin"-such as trying to quit smoking-they are dissembling. For the core meaning of jihad is "fighting the unbelievers in the cause of Allah." And dying while fighting is the highest form of faith, bringing the highest rewards in Paradise.

What's more, I am physically close to the heart of the conspiracy to institutionalize Islam in America and therefore fully immersed in the story, which puts me in a unique position to capture the kind of nuance necessary to paint a full and textured picture. All paths in the terror-support syndicate lead back to northern Virginia where I live and work as an investigative journalist, part of a state with the fastest-growing Muslim population in America. It is also the U.S. headquarters of the Saudi Wahhabi lobby. Because of my proximity, I can take readers inside the underworld that is operating right in the president's backyard. It runs along an old highway I have nicknamed the "Wahhabi corridor." A chapter by that name provides a veritable road map to the conspiracy.

Muslim subversives and fellow travelers who agreed to be interviewed for this book were given ample running room to defend themselves and their positions. I am not interested in setting up straw men. And those hoping for mindless Islambashing or ad hominem attacks against sacred Muslim figures such as Muhammad will be disappointed. I use only facts to advance the argument of the book.

It has become abundantly clear in the three and a half years since 9/11, however, that even those who thoughtfully and factually criticize Muslim leaders in America can expect to be reflexively smeared as "bigots," "racists," or "Islamophobes" by these same leaders, desperate as they are to change the subject, and by their apologists in the punditry, eager as they are to claim the mantle of tolerance. This author, unfortunately, will be no exception.
