Introduction

What is the purpose of life on earth? Isthere an afterlife? How are we to imagine life in the spiritual world? Whatis in store for us over there?

These questions about our existence reachinto the spiritual reality of the beyond, a reality which is inaccessible byour physical senses and by present day methods of natural scientific research. Therefore it is not easy for us to acquire informed and detailed knowledge byourselves.

However, there are ways to gain insight intothe spiritual world. Well-known examples are near-death experiences (NDE)taking place on the threshold of the beyond or impressive dreams perhaps involvinga dearly loved deceased person.

Yet another means of gaining insight intothe where from and where to of mankind is the contact with the beyondthrough a human intermediary, a medium. This significant method of receivingspiritual knowledge has been known for ages we need only to remember theprophets of ancient Israel or the early Christians who prayed emphatically forsupport and instruction from the spiritual world of God.

People today are no longer familiar with theidea of a connection between this world and the beyond. A relationship betweenthe spirits of God and mankind, to many people, would appear inconceivable orimpossible or even forbidden. This is due to a lack of deeper reflection andknowledge of the subject.

Testimoniesfrom the Bible

Many varied testimonies can be found in theBible showing that God spoke to people; that he spoke with Adam and Eve, withAbraham, Isaac and Jacob as well as Moses. This communication with thespiritual world of God is of central importance in the whole of the OldTestament. At the time there existed almost a daily dialogue with the spiritualworld through a medium or person with a spiritual disposition. It is a factthat leaders did not act without first consulting the spiritual world.

The New Testament demonstrates that JesusChrist, the Apostles and the early Christians aspired to communicate with thedivine world. As he was highly sensitive Christ enjoyed an extremely closerelationship with God and his divine spiritual world. Again and again he emphasizedthat he taught and acted solely on the instructions of his Father. Prior to hisdeath Christ promised his followers that he would not abandon them but sendthem the spirit of truth who would guide and teach them all they needed to know(e . g. John 14:26; 16:1213). And hekept his word: at Whitsun, just a few days after Christs Ascension, theApostles and their closest friends experienced in a most impressive manner howdivine spirits spoke audibly to human ears. Acts 2:113 gives an account of theteachings they received. Since that time Whitsun commemorates the outpouring ofthe holy spirit or, more precisely, of the holy spirits. The letters of theApostles document the important role of divine spirits working through peoplewith spiritual gifts in early Christian communities. Paul strongly recommendedvarious communities to aspire to contact with divine spirits and to obtaintheir support.

Unambiguous proof can be found both in theOld as well as the New Testament: it is possible for people on earth to havecontact with the spiritual world. Those searching for knowledge should begin byunderstanding the process of such a relationship. Those to whom spirits of Godspoke at that time were people with all the faults and weaknesses that we havetoday. And the natural laws regulating their lives on earth were just the sameas they are today. God and his spiritual world too are just the same today asthey were in those days. So if this close relationship with the spiritual worldof God was possible and, indeed, was maintained by people over thousands ofyears ago, why should it no longer be possible for mankind to have such arelationship today?

Generally speaking, if little is known todayabout the possibility of a relationship between this world and the world beyondit is because of todays spirit of the age: the material splendour and thehectic pace of every day life hold the danger of distracting people from theessentials. However, if one cultivates an interest in the higher world, thesearch for truth through the application of reason and common sense willactivate ones inner awareness. The flowering of those spiritual gifts whichare prerequisite to a connection with the world of God will then be possible.

Mediumship and deep trance

To enter into a perceptible contact with theworld beyond requires a human being with a particular, and rare, mediumisticfaculty. All people have a certain mediumistic disposition. However, very fewpeople have such a pronounced mediumistic gift which allows them to act asmediator between this world and the world beyond. In order to allow spiritcommunication, a medium must be able to make available to the manifestingspirit-being a sufficient quantity of his own life force (odic force) this isan exceptional gift!

The actual value and content of arelationship with the world beyond depends not only on the ethos and thedevotion to God of the manifesting spirit but of the intermediary himself. Tobe a useful instrument to the divine world a medium must have a strong character;he, or she, must have right thinking and a sensible discernment as well asdisplay virtues such as modesty, self-sacrifice and faithfulness towards thespiritual world of God.

Deep trance isthe most important form of mediumship for the transmission of the truth andoccurs when the mediums own spirit has completely withdrawn from his physicalbody. In its stead another spirit being enters the body of the speaking mediumand formulates its messages by means of the mediums voice organ. During thistime, the spirit of the deep trance medium remains connected with his own bodyby means of the silver cord, the thread of life. At the end of themanifestation the mediums own spirit returns to his body and once awake heknows nothing of what the manifesting spirit being has said through him.

A biblical example of such a manifestationfrom the world beyond is the event at Whitsun, mentioned be fore, when the Apostles were overwhelmed as eachwas filled by a holy spirit praising God and his deeds, proclaiming theGospel of Christ and speaking in foreign languages (cf. Acts 2:113).

Deep trance medium Beatrice Brunner

The fact that even today people can beguided and taught by spirits of God is substantiated by the 2500 lectures thathave been transmitted by the deep trance medium Beatrice Brunner (1911983) over a period of 35 years between1948 and 1983. Part of these comprehensive teachings from the divine worldconsists of 91 reports of individual experiences of deceased people, recountingtheir life on earth and their initial experiences in the world beyond.

This book reflects a small selection ofthese individual reports of deceased persons who lived on earth some 50 to 200years ago. Based on the explanations given in these accounts the reader isenabled to imagine the possibilities which are opened by a relationship betweenthis world and the beyond, and he or she can gain insight into the world thatis awaiting each and every one of us.

The accounts are personal, and each reportdemonstrates the varying spiritual effects an individuals attitude and actionshave on the manner in which they are judged and treated after death.
