INTRODUCTION
The date of the beginning of the historical backdrop of the United States is a subject of level headed discussion among history specialists. The more seasoned reading material begins with the entry of Christopher Columbus in August 3, 1492, and accentuates the European foundation, or they begin around 1600 and stress the American wilderness. In late decades, American schools and colleges ordinarily have moved back so as to incorporate more on the pioneer time frame and a great deal more on the ancient times of the Native people.
Indigenous individuals lived in what is currently the United States for a huge number of years before European pilgrims started to arrive, for the most part from England, after 1600. The Spanish had little settlements in Florida and the Southwest, and the French along the Mississippi River and the Gulf Coast. By the 1770s, thirteen British provinces contained over two million individuals along the Atlantic drift east of the Appalachian Mountains. In the 1760s, the British government forced a progression of new expenses while dismissing the American contention that any new assessments must be affirmed by the general population.
This and much more is what we are going to discuss in this book. lets dig into the book to see what we have got in here for you.
CHAPTER 1: THE PRE-COLUMBIAN PERIOD
Usually, whenever we talk about America or its history, we always start off with Columbus but there was a really important time period that came even before Columbuss arrival. We always forget to mention that time period even though it is really important. Here, I am going to take you to the very beginning where it all started.
THE DIVERSITY AND ITS ORIGIN:
The United States, with its diversity, is a place that we aren't really sure of when it comes to its origins. We dont really know how and when the so-called Native Americans started pouring in and how they started inhabiting the present day the United States. There are many theories regarding this particular subject but the one that makes the most sense, says that during the ice age, people migrated across a bridge known as Beringia from Eurasia. This bridge was, actually, a connection between Siberia and Alaska.
When people moved towards these areas, they stared spreading towards the South and some of them went as far as the Antarctic Peninsula. If we talk about the time when this happened then according to an approximation, this happened around30,000 years ago. This movement kept going on till at least 10,000 years ago. These people who were the first ones to inhabit the land were known as Paleoamericans. These limited number of people, soon, divided into a large number of smaller tribes and nations that were really different from each other culture-wise. This is what gave rise to the diversity of the initial time.
All the subdivisions had already taken place in the pre-Columbian era, before Europe started being so influential on America. The irony here is that the name itself means the era before Columbus landed the place but we talk about everything including how America had such a diverse culture from the very start due to the people who inhabited the area. This could have happened many years after Columbuss initial landing in the area but we still refer to it as the pre-Columbian era because this was before he had any influence in the area.
MAJOR CULTURES THAT EXISTED:
It is important to mention the major cultures that existed at that time. The first prominent among those is the Adena culture that existed from around 100 BC to 200 BC. Next, the Coles Creek culture was also an important culture that existed during that time. Hohokam, Puebloan, and Mississippian cultures are also among the most prominent names of that time. Lastly, Iroquois culture was another important name that became a part of the history.
These were some important details that you ought to know regarding the pre-Columbian time. Next, we are going to explore the history of United States in more detail and with a sequence.
CHAPTER 2: THE COLONIAL PERIOD
English had been exploring America and they, finally, established their first settlement in 1607. There was a lot of exchange that took place between the two different geographical regions. They brought cattle, hogs and horses to America and in return, they took beans, tobacco, potatoes etc with them. It wasnt just the good things that they got from America. Many of them died as well because they caught so many lethal new diseases by getting exposed to America. Those diseases had an even worse effect on the native Americans and many of their societies were uprooted altogether because they had absolutely no immunity against these diseases.
BRITISH COLONIZATION:
In the 17 th century, the British colonists were settled in the eastern sea coast along with some Swedes and Dutch people. At that time, there was an intense shortage of labor and hence, most of the people that came as immigrants from the Europe, they came as servants.
FIRST COLONY:
In 1607, the first English colony was established in Virginia, known as James Town. For decades, nothing much happened in James-town until the late 17 th century when more people arrived in the area and they started commercial agriculture that was based on tobacco. Approximately 50,000 British convicts were sent to American colonies between the revolution and the late 1610s. A lot of these settlers were even killed by the native Americans during the Powhatan conflict in 1622.
The colonies that were established in the present-day New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delware had great diversity in them culturally. As I mentioned already, this was the period when a lot of English people were trying to settle in these colonies and among these settlements was the province of Carolina with Georgia Colony. The colonies were really diverse religiously and in many other aspects as well. After the great awakening, people lead by the preachers, became really religious and developed an intense love for the God. A lot of the preachers focused on the abolishment of slavery and focused on religious freedom.
