Its the greatest story never told: that of a boy who met Jesus and dared to ask Him all the questions that have consumed mankind since the dawn of time.

His name was Segatashya. He was a shepherd born into a penniless and illiterate pagan family in the most remote region of Rwanda. He never attended school, never saw a bible, and never set foot in a church. Then one summer day in 1982 while the 15-year-old was resting beneath a shade tree, Jesus Christ paid him a visit.
Jesus asked the startled young man if hed be willing to go on a mission to remind mankind how to live a life that leads to heaven. Segatashya accepted the assignment on one condition: that Jesus answer all his questions-and all the questions of those he met on his travels-about faith, religion, the purpose of life, and the nature of heaven and hell. Jesus agreed to the boys terms, and Segatashya set off on what would become one of the most miraculous journeys in modern history.
Although he was often accused of being a charlatan and beaten as a result, Segatashyas innocent heart and powerful spiritual wisdom quickly won over even the most cynical of critics. Soon, this teenage boy who had never learned to read or write was discussing theology with leading biblical scholars and advising pastors and priests of all denominations. He became so famous in Rwanda that the Catholic Church investigated his story.
The doctors and psychiatrists who examined Segatashya all agreed that they were witnessing a miracle. His words and simple truths converted thousands of hearts and souls wherever he went. Before his death during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, Segatashya continued his travels and conversations with Jesus for eight years, asking Him what we all want to know:
Why were we created?
Why must we suffer?
Why do bad things happen to good people?
When will the world end?
Is there life after death?
How do we get to Heaven?
The answers to these and many other momentous, life-changing questions are revealed in this riveting book, which is the first full account of Segatashyas remarkable life story. Written with grace, passion, and loving humor by Immacule Ilibagiza, Segatashyas close friend and a survivor of the Rwandan holocaust herself, this truly inspirational work is certain to move you in profound ways.
No matter what your faith or religious beliefs, Segatashyas words will bring you comfort and joy, and prepare your heart for this life . . . and for life everlasting.

JESUS TO SEGATASHYA

THE VOICE IN THE DARKNESS At first I could see nothing at all I was aware only - photo 6

THE VOICE IN
THE DARKNESS

At first I could see nothing at all; I was aware only of being alone in darkness so complete I thought it would suffocate me. Then, like a lifeline reaching from somewhere beyond the deep blackness of the night, a familiar voice found my earsa comforting voice, of someone I had loved and trusted from my childhood. It was the voice of Segatashya, who, in my African homeland of Rwanda, is known as the boy who met Jesus.

Segatashyas gentle voice drifted to me across the lightless abyss, as if floating upon a calm breeze. The voice, indecipherable at first, slowly formed into words, softly whispering, Heaven is waiting for us all when our time comes to leave this world, but only if our hearts are clean and pure.

Suddenly I realized that I must be asleep and in the midst of a dream, because Segatashya had been murdered many years before, one of more than a million innocent victims slaughtered during Rwandas horrific 1994 genocide. It was nowat least it was when I lay down to sleep that nightmid-November of 2010 so I knew I must be dreaming. But I also knew that if this was a dream, it was unlike any Id had before. What I was feeling was as vivid, real, and lifelike as anything Id experienced during my waking hours.

The voice reached me again: Jesus says that we must prepare our hearts for the end of days. We will all die one daywe must not live our lives as though we are unaware that our time on this Earth will come to an end. The world itself will end, and that day is fast approaching. We must repent for all our sins before it is too late. We must ask to be forgiven for our trespasses and find it in our hearts to forgive those who have trespassed against us. We must purify our hearts with Gods love and cleanse our spirits by living a life filled with love and charity. We must prepare our souls for Judgment Day. Christs return is near, and the gates of heaven will open to us only if the Lord judges us to be worthy of entering his kingdom.

The words grew increasingly familiar to me, and I realized that I not only recognized the voice, but I also recognized the specific message. I had heard Segatashya recite the exact same cautionary phrases when I was a young girl.

In my dream, I was gliding above the ground as my heart pulled me toward the voice, which led me out of the darkness and into a golden circle of light. Several dozen people were gathered in the center of the pool of light, all listening intently to a teenage boy who was addressing them with passionate urgency. The young man sat on a long wooden bench, with his audience crowding around him. His back was turned toward me so I was unable to see his face, but I was certain it was Segatashya.

I first heard him speak when I was 12 years old, and nothing in the world will ever erase from my memory the rich character of his voice or the miraculous content of his messages. In fact, Im certain beyond a doubt that anyone who ever heard Segatashya speak feels the same wayfor once his loving words have touched your heart, they are part of it forever.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE UNFAMILIAR with my most recent book, Our Lady of Kibeho: Mary Speaks to the World from the Heart of Africa, I should explain that Segatashya was one of a group of young visionaries who had apparitions of the Virgin Maryand in Segatashyas case, of Jesus Christin the remote Rwandan village of Kibeho during the 1980s.
