INTRODUCTION
MATT REDMAN
The Church today is full of new songs and sounds. Look around and youll find so many creative approaches to leading worshipsigns of love and life from an adoring Bride. We are a singing Church. We journey on for the Kingdom come, treading with reverence and shouting for joy. Its an exciting time to be involved in leading Gods people in worship through music.
Into this environment was born heartofworship.comas an online resource to encourage, challenge and inspire lead worshippers along the way. The Heart of Worship Files is a collection of highlights from the website.
We have compiled the readings in this book, keeping in mind that there are various, different sides to leading worship. The compilation provides practical advice for the pastoral aspects of worship leading, creative advice for the musical side of things and perceptive insights into the theology of worship. It also delves into our heritage for some inspiration from musical worshippers of the past. Each reading fits into one of five categories: Practical Worship Leading, Creative Insight, Songwriting, Theology of Worship and Searching the Psalms. Each category is represented by an icon that youll see in the contents and at the top of the corresponding pages of the book. Youll also find a recurring section called The One Thing, which contains responses from experienced lead worshippers when asked, What is the one thing most on your heart for those involved in leading worship these days?
