Praise for A Significant Life
There is a life beyond the one we know. Our souls yearn for it, our dreams are filled with it, and our hopes reach for it in the lives of others. It is the life of meaning we were made to live, the one fueled by the power of a destiny to fulfill. Jim Graff has charted the pathway to that life. A Significant Life is a stirring call to the highlands of Gods best for our lives.

I dedicate this book to:
My father, Ken Graff Sr. (1928-1985), a dedicated researcher at PPG Industries by day and a community volunteer firefighter, an ambulance driver, a Little League coach, and a devoted husband and father by night. To my best friend, the man who taught me to believe in myself and my God-given potential, my prayer is that more homes would be filled with fathers like you.
My father-in-law for thirteen years, Pastor John Osteen (1921-1999), my mentor in ministry who showed me that buildings dont need pastors but that people do. An encouraging and compassionate leader, this man taught me to believe in others and their God-given potential. I pray more churches would be filled with pastors like you.
Every pastor laboring in Americas smaller counties and in overlooked places of the world. My prayer is that you would flourish and abound in the place of significance God has called you to.
Foreword
E ach day we can easily become consumed by the details of life: running errands, preparing meals, chauffeuring children, paying bills, and working overtime. Its sometimes hard to remember why we do what we dothe deeper design behind the details, the motivation beyond surviving another day. It reminds me of walking through a forest so overgrown that blazing the trail seems to become more important than where it leads us. On this kind of hike, its not hard to lose motivation for the journey.
If I asked you what matters most to you on this journey, my guess is that youd respond like many of us: God, family, friends, church, work. But if I asked you if youre living a significant life, how would you respond? As you drive your kids to school or commute to work, pay the bills and shop for groceries, it may not feel particularly momentous, even though theyre all part of every day. But beneath the surface, dont you know God created you for more? Day in and day out, do you seek a meaningful life, full of God-given passionate purpose?
This question is certainly not new. In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul reminds us all to stay focused on the finish line, not on the speed bumps we encounter along the way: Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24). In order to capture the rewarding life we were created to live, we must keep our eyes on the prize. We do this by focusing on our God-given purposes. We do this by living each day with an awareness of its eternal significance.
Like cold water to a weary runner, A Significant Life will refresh your spirit as you seek to make every day count. Whether youre already living with a sense of significance or struggling to discover what is truly meaningful, the powerful message contained in this book will inspire you. Ive known my brother-in-law Jim Graff for more than twenty years, and he is like a brother to me. He has a passion for empowering individuals, churches, and communities to discover their significance. Jim clearly has a message that the Lord has burned in his heart, one that is relevant, meaningful, and life-changing.
Jim loves helping people find their unique significance, so they can unleash it toward eternal goals. He understands the ways our human nature and media-saturated culture pressure us to compare ourselves with others, making us feel like we come up short. In A Significant Life, Jim helps us move beyond a bigger-is-always-better mind-set and discover the soul satisfaction that can only come from living out of our true identities as image-bearers of God. With biblical insight and personal examples, Jim will inspire you to explore your life in profound ways as he guides you through five key areas necessary to developing your personal significance.
