Preface
I had someone tell me a few years ago that through my awakening, I was going to help others in more ways than I could ever imagine. I can certainly tell you, I never thought learning to finally embrace my sensitivities would lead me to publish a book that could help empaths discover who they are and learn to love and embrace their uniqueness. It is my goal that this workbook will help you discover the things that took me a long while to learn and accept. Be true to your emotions and sensitivities. To feel so deeply is a gift, and there truly is a purpose for all of it.
Lots of love and light,
Stephanie
The ugly duckling is a misunderstood universal myth. Its not about turning into a blonde Barbie doll or becoming what you dream of being; its about self-revelation, becoming who you are.

Introduction
Growing up, like many empaths, I always felt different, like I never truly belonged. It never mattered how many times I tried to fit or blend in; I just couldnt. I used to spend a lot of time by myself, often going on long walks or bike rides around water so I could process my emotions and think about life. I would think about what I was doing here, what it all meant, and what I could do to fulfill my purpose as someone who was meant to help others. Though I was certainly not an average kid, I was perfectly content being alone and running around with my shoes off, connecting with nature and everything else around me.
I knew from a very early age that I was not alone and that I could feel subtle energy (I just did not know what it was at the time). I could sense spirit and energy around me often. I remember one day when I was seven or eight years old, I was playing with a Barbie, and recalled a scene from the movie The NeverEnding Story when the main character Bastian realized the story he was reading involved him. I remember putting my Barbie down, looking up, and wondering if someone was watching or reading about me. No one was there physically, yet I smiled because I felt that there was some sort of divine energy observing me. I knew at that very moment that I was just playing a part in a larger story. Looking back, I realize that this was my first time experiencing the beautiful lesson that separation is an illusion: we are not separate from each other or the divine.
As I grew into my young adult years, like Bastian, I was exposed to situations where I was taught to think first and feel laterwhich is the total opposite of what an empath naturally does. I was living in a household where this was just simply the way. Unfortunately, because I was taught that I could not trust or depend on my feelings, I started to develop anxiety and suppress my natural connection to my intuition and psychic gifts.
I have noticed that, after working with empaths around the world, many empaths have also experienced anxiety caused from the suppression of their intuition and natural psychic gifts. That is why Ive written this book: to help you identify with, support, and develop your beautiful empathic soul and live in alignment with who you truly are.
If you feel as though you dont fit into this world, it is because you are here to help create a new one.

CHAPTER ONE
What Is an Empath?
Some of you may have heard of the term highly sensitive person, or HSP. I have heard people state that HSPs and empaths are the same thing. Although there are similarities, the two are not the same. But before we talk about empaths, its good to understand a bit about HSPs.
An HSP is someone who is very sensitive to their surroundings and has a heightened awareness of external stimuli. Highly sensitive people often notice things that other people would not, such as smells, minute details in a room, and changes in other peoples body language and tone of voice. According to Dr. Elaine Aron from the Foundation for the Study of Highly Sensitive Persons, about 15 to 20% of the worlds population is highly sensitive.
A highly sensitive person (HSP) has a sensitive nervous system, is aware of subtleties in his/her surroundings, and is more easily overwhelmed when in a highly stimulating environment.
