THE CUSP-BORN TAURUS

Are you really a Taurus? If your birthday falls during the fourth week of April, at the beginning of Taurus, will you still retain the traits of Aries, the sign of the Zodiac before Taurus? And what if you were born late in Mayare you more Gemini than Taurus? Many people born at the edge, or cusp, of a sign have difficulty determining exactly what sign they are. If you are one of these people, heres how you can figure it out, once and for all.

Consult the cusp table on the facing page, then locate the year of your birth. The table will tell you the precise days on which the Sun entered and left your sign for the year of your birth. In that way you can determine if you are a true Taurusor whether you are an Aries or a Geminiaccording to the variations in cusp dates from year to year (see also page 17).

If you were born at the beginning or end of Taurus, yours is a lifetime reflecting a process of subtle transformation. Your life on Earth will symbolize a significant change in consciousness, for you are either about to enter a whole new way of living or are leaving one behind.

If you were born toward the end of April, you may want to read the horoscope book for Aries as well as for Taurus. The investment might be strangely revealing, for Aries contains the secret to many of your complexities and unexpressed assets and liabilities.

But this is the very irony of an Aries-Taurus cusp. The more fixed you become, the less able you are to seek out adventure, take chances, gambleand win. Call it identity, personality, ego, self-image, facade, come-on, body-mind-spiritwhatever term best conveys to you the meaning of the you that acts and reacts in the world. It is a you that is always changing, discovering a new you. Your identity started with birth and early environment, over which you had little conscious control, and continues to experience, to adjust, to express itself. The 1st house also represents how others see you. Has anyone ever guessed your sign to be your Rising sign? People may respond to that personality, that facade, that body type governed by your Rising sign.

Your Ascendant, or Rising sign, modifies your basic Sun sign personality, and it affects the way you act out the daily predictions for your Sun sign. If your Rising sign is indeed Taurus, what follows is a description of its effects on your horoscope. With Taurus on the Ascendant, that is, in your 1st house, the planet rising in the 1st house is Venus, ruler of Taurus. Venus confers an intuitive, creative mind, and a liking for ease and luxury. Venus here gives you a sociable natureloyal, lovable, and loving. But there are contradictions! Like the Bull, the zodiacal symbol of Taurus, you strike contrasting poses. In repose, you can be seen sweetly, peaceably smelling the flowers. Enraged, you trample the very turf that supports you. A passionate, selfish, demanding streak overcomes the mild, gentle, docile mood.

You have a well-developed need for people. Personal relationships are important to you, often centering around your love life. Bestowed with ample good looks and sensual appeal, you do not lack for admirers. In fact, you are sought after, often chased. Though generally loyal and steadfast, and capable of success in marriage, you may, however, have an irresistible urge for secret affairs, which arouse other peoples jealousy and antagonism. There is also the danger that you can be caught between a fierce possessiveness and a thoughtless desire to acquire popularity in an indiscriminating way.

You have an even greater need for money. For you with Taurus Rising, money symbolizes the successful self. You intend to earn money in a steady, practical way, especially one that is time-honored and contains few risks. But you tend to spend money lavishly, when your comfort and edification demand it. You like sparkle and glitter, ornamentation, and nourishment. Food, clothes, things can become extravagances you cannot afford. Only when threats to your personal security loom do you jealously guard your money. You may also confuse money and love, using the one to get the other and vice versa.

You have a strong creative drive, tending toward the arts and crafts. Your self-expression is best achieved by creating sensations that are pleasing to the eye and to the body in general. You are, however, capable of sustained efforts of the mind, for you are both patient and intuitive. For you, the creator, one problem lies in being too fixed in your vision, too proud to ask for help, and too self-centered to think you need it. If you get bogged down, you abandon your undertakings for a lazy, self-indulgent spell. You also keep a too tenacious hold on your creations.

Because you are basically cautious, what you create or build is usually very sound. Success through stability is your motto. Your efforts, focused in a relationship or in a product, have a tempering, personalizing influence. Sometimes you shy away from group efforts if they stress generalities or nonpersonal goals. In a setting where intimacy is discouraged, your drive is inhibited. On the other hand, you have deep compassion and an unselfish need to serve others. When an activity or cause sponsors both personal satisfaction and kindly justice, you will work for it laboriously. Otherwise, you prefer the pursuit of heady living, sometimes alone, sometimes with a partner.
