W elcome. You are about to embark on a unique program of weight reduction called the Weigh Down Diet. This book gives you the major concepts of what is being taught in video and audio form in the Weigh Down Workshop seminars across the country. Weigh Down seminars are held in over ten thousand locations throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, and are held in churches of all denominations.
We have entitled this book The Weigh Down Diet, but dont let the use of the word diet mislead you. The dictionary offers two definitions of the word diet. The first is the food and drink regularly consumed. Another meaning is to eat according to prescribed rules. We want to assure you that The Weigh Down Diet is founded on the complete freedom found in the first definition.
Weigh Down is showing people, on a daily basis, how our God can transform their hearts and minds so that they can rise above the magnetic pull of the refrigerator! Instead of emphasizing the caloric content of food, the Weigh Down Workshop encourages you to focus on your natural, internal hunger control. But more importantly, your focus will be trained to turn toward the will of God as it relates to food!
Studies show that we are fatter than ever. And it seems that the more weight-obsessed we are, the less we lose and the more we revile the pudgy, the plump, the rotund, the fat, and the morbidly obese. The billion-dollar weight-loss industry is a dizzying carousel of promises, hardly ever fulfilled.
Years of restrictive dieting have only strengthened the chains of slavery to food. Years of focusing on food and giving all our boredom, distress, and troubles to a pan of brownies have only increased our stress. Dieting has drained us emotionally, if not financially, and has exacerbated rather than solved our problems.
Into this vortex comes the Weigh Down Workshop, which can offer up testimonials as enthusiastic as anything television weight-loss gurus or liquid fasts ever producedthe inspiring sagas of women and men and children who lost 20, 50, 180 pounds and counting.
Chapter after chapter, this book will guide you away from dietingwhich we define as making the food behave. If you are dieting, taking pills, counting fat grams, using exchange lists, or changing the content of foods, then you believe your basic problem is the food. Weigh Down counters this by maintaining that dieting keeps the person focused on what he or she should and should not eat. This focus on food only increases the magnetic pull of the refrigerator. This book emphasizes Gods powernot will-power.
If you are willing, the journey you are about to take will be a magnificent wisdom-gaining experience, rescuing you from dieting and taking you to permanent weight loss.
In the end, it wasnt the low-carbohydrate diet or local weight-loss groups that helped thousands lose the nagging extra pounds in a matter of monthsit was God.
Do not care what people think-do not consider how big or little you aredo not think of yourself at all. If God puts this course of action on your heart, then come along. God does not call perfect people; He calls imperfect people to be devoted to Him so that we can see His awesome and mighty right hand rescue us!
Through much devotion to our true God, the Lord Almighty,
M EDICAL C ONSIDERATIONS
B efore starting this program, we recommend that you receive a medical checkup. Consulting your physician is especially vital if you have any medical condition which is impacted by food/foods.
You are preparing to move into the realm of regular foods from the grocery store, including things with salt and fat and sugar. However, your volume of foods is going to be drastically reduced, and your body loves this! God made us sensitive to what and how much our bodies need, and you have to resurrect this system!
If you have preexisting health conditions such as food allergies, diverticulitis, cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, hyperlipoproteinemia, bowel resections, chronic ulcers, kidney disease, chronic constipation, etc., make sure that you are under your physicians care and guidelines for foods and medication. For example, if you have chronic constipation, you must keep eating your fiber. If you have ulcers, take your medicine and do not eat the foods that upset your stomach.
However, there are a few preexisting physical conditions that may be alleviated when you lose weight and start eating regular foods in smaller amounts. For example, if you have high cholesterol or triglycerides, losing weight permanently could possibly alleviate this problem. You must stay in touch with your physician. Spastic colon and ulcers could slowly improve as you eat the volume of food that your body calls for. PMS symptoms are often less intense as you lose weight. Joint and muscle problems are improved in some cases. People on cortisone and/or who have lupus will still lose weight with no problemit just might be a slower weight loss.
When I take medication which should be taken with food, I take it with one to three crackers. Consult your physician.
You are not going to believe how much energy and life you are going to enjoy, as well as how much emotional improvement you will experience!
Type I and type II diabetes and hypoglycemia
Consult your physician and make sure he or she is fully aware of the principles of this program.
Type I diabetics need to know how to check their glucose levels regularly and to adjust insulin intake accordingly as the volume of food decreases. They must eat when their blood sugar is too low and when they feel hunger.
Type II diabetes (adult-onset) is usually the direct result of overeating. The body is overburdened by the ingestion of too much food, and the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to handle the excess. Diabetics who have come through the program have sometimes been able to regulate their insulin level and eliminate medication by simply reducing their intake of food, which gets the insulin/food ratio closer.
Occasionally, low blood sugar and hunger do not coincide. If blood sugar levels drop, do not panic! Usually, small amounts of food taken within a few minutes will make you feel better. This is not an open invitation to binge.
Children
This book is written addressing the overweight adult. Information on overweight children and eating practices for children may be found in Appendix B
