When students become qualified and certified Black Belts, it is our hope that they WILL be committed, practice Don Jitsu Ryu as a lifestyle and endeavor to keep the standard style method alive.
P rofessor Don Anthony Jacob (H.B.Mg), Soke, is the creator and founder of the international system of martial arts known as the Don Jitsu Ryu. He was born in Trinidad on October 16, 1954 and started his martial arts training at the tender age of nine under the watchful eye of judo instructor Sensei Clyde Thomas. Later he continued his martial arts training in the field of karate under Master Yoshitaka and ultimately under the tutelage of the world-renowned Jiu-Jitsu Grand Master Doctor Moses Powell. Professor Don Jacob is a fighter by nature, and he has traveled extensively to many countries of the world competing, performing, teaching, and lecturing on martial arts and self-motivation. He has studied martial arts for over four decades and presently holds a 9th Degree Black Belt in Don Jitsu Ryu.
Professor Don Jacob is one of the most sought-after martial arts professionals in the world today, and having conducted extensive research on the topic (martial arts), he is considered to be one of its most knowledgeable historians.
Professor Don Jacob is perhaps the most decorated martial artist alive today. He has received countless certifications and awards, and documents of honorary citizenship to many parts of the world. In 2010 Professor Don Jacob was honored by his country, Trinidad & Tobago, and was awarded with the Hummingbird Gold Medal, an award given for loyal and dedicated service to his community and country. Professor Don Jacob was also recognized as being one of his countrys fifty most influential persons during the countrys Bicentennial Independence Celebration for the period 1962 2012.
Soke Professor Don Jacob is the author of several books, including The High Impact Jiu-Jitsu, The Official Manual for Rape Prevention, The Fighting Mans Bible, The Marketing Warfare of Don Jitsu Ryu, What is Don Jitsu Ryu, This is Don Jitsu Ryu, Act Like a Lady Fight Like a Man, among others. He is very vocal about issues relating to the inappropriate use and abuse of the martial arts. Professor Jacob developed Don Jitsu Ryu to not just be a style, but a lifestyle. In other words, the lessons taught and learned in the Dojos (training halls) all have practical applications, which can be used at home, at school, or at your work. His message You have greatness within you has been the motivating force for many of his students who have excelled at school, work, university, or who have taken that uncertain step into the world as an entrepreneur.
Professor Don Jacob has taught and demonstrated with great success in countries such as England, Canada, USA, Hawaii, Japan, Australia, Africa, Nepal, India, China and throughout the Caribbean, to name a few. He is considered by those who have seen and trained with him to be the most dynamic and complete martial artist that they have had the honor of witnessing and experiencing.
This dedicated teacher has been motivated throughout his martial arts career to assist and help others. His goals include reaching out to people in even the most rural areas in an effort to help them grow to a more positive and prosperous level. He accomplishes this through the use of the principles and teachings of the Don Jitsu Ryu System. Professor Don Jacob believes that discipline, integrity and hard work are the keys to eradicating poverty and the poverty mentality, especially among his own Purple Dragon understudies.
Professor Don Jacob has worked tirelessly to educate those who take a negative outlook on the martial arts based on their ignorance, and he strives to help bring peace, healthy living, and goodwill to all martial artists. Professor Don Jacob impresses this most important message upon his students: We have a duty to teach, but an obligation to learn.
