DARE TO BE HOLY REVIEWS Clive Brook has done it again in
Dare To Be Holy. He pulls no punches when he asserts that if we are not reading the Bible our mind is being fed with the secular garbage of the world. Not only does his writing inspire, but it provides rich wisdom to enable us to live fully-fledged Christian lives in an age of an aggressive atheism in which some people have decided that they dont do God! The index of Bible verses is an invaluable tool. Clives book is wonderful food for the soul. Paul Arnott

CMAs Q4Connection. Clive Brook has written an important series of biblically and theologically sound devotional reflections on various aspects of the calling to be holy in Jesus Christ in this secular age.
They have certainly captured my attention and challenged my attitudes at times. Clives 44 devotional pieces (and his final chapter) are not ones to be read through and passed over but rather they are to be read, perhaps re-read and chewed over before one makes a decision to act on them. Clive invites us on a journey of recognition that we may become who God has called us to be as Christians, holy. As a former Methodist, the number 44 conjures up the 44 Sermons that John Wesley wrote that Methodist ministers had to study. While I am not necessarily comparing Clive Brooks 44 devotional reflections with Wesleys sermons, both documents cover important basics of the Christian faith in ways that challenge and encourage. If you are wanting a Christian book to read straight through in one sitting, then maybe this one is not for you at the moment.
However, if you are wanting a challenging, thought provoking and encouraging devotional that you can come back to time and again then I recommend Dare to be Holy in this Secular Age. Rev Bruce Cornish
Uniting Church Minister. Dare To Be Holy is an amazing compilation of messages that covers so many facets of what it means to be holy or set apart as a follower of Jesus Christ. As you read these messages, you will laugh, maybe even cry, but certainly you will be challenged to reflect on your life and its effectiveness in being the salt and light in this ever-darkening world. Clives broad life experience, wisdom and discernment gained through years of pastoral ministry to people from varied backgrounds and cultures come to life and is evident as you read and meditate on his messages. Dare to Be Holy in this Secular Age
to the glory of Almighty God. I pray that the Holy Spirit will use these words
to inspire many people to live holy lives
and lead lots of people to respond
to the holy love of Jesus Just as he who called you is holy,
so be holy in all you do. (1Peter 1.15) Foreword Christians are not just repentant sinners: we are called to become something greater.
We are called to be saints. The word saint means holy: we are called to be holy. In this book we are challenged to be holy and to show that holiness in our lives and in our hearts. In a number of beautiful vignettes Fr Clive takes examples from the Bible and stories from life in our present time to challenge us to accept Gods love fully. In so doing we are challenged to be holy. Being holy should must change our lives.
The short chapters of this book are full of common-sense expositions on this. You may not agree with all the points made, but you will still be deeply challenged. In particular Fr Clive challenges our ready acceptance of the dominant values of our culture the materialism, individualism and dependence on worldly success which we so often accept uncritically. This is a real challenge to Christianity which must offer the loving and glorious alternatives founded on the person of Jesus. In this book Fr Clive responds to these challenges and in turn dares us to be holy. +Keith NQ

There is a tendency to think of holiness as something belonging to the most dedicated Christians and is not relevant to ordinary people. Many Christians think that the command to be holy does not apply to them. Many people would not dare to think of themselves as being holy. They would regard such thoughts as an unbecoming sign of arrogance. We are called by God to be holy: Be holy because I the Lord your Godam holy (Leviticus 19.2) You belong to God! That is a fact he designed you and made you. when you are committed to honouring Jesus in all that you do. when you are committed to honouring Jesus in all that you do.
God needs people to be holy to proclaim his glory. In the last chapter, there are suggestions how you can bring God into your daily conversations. Dare to be holy in this secular age. I give a heart-felt thanks to all who helped in the preparation and editing of Dare To Be Holy. Clive Brook How to read this book Dare To Be Holy is a devotional book and is best read one chapter at a time. Reflect on the Bible quotes and how they apply in your life.
