Introduction
I was in my prayer time one morning when suddenly a song popped in my head. Now this is not an unusual occurrence, there is always music going on in my head. It was the song that surprised me a little, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Remember that one - jump out the back Jack, make a new plan Stan, no need to be coy Roy... Well, something like that.
Yes, I started singing it until it occurred to me that I was praying. As I returned back to prayer I heard it clearly, 50 Ways to Beat the Devil. Meditating on this revelation, I began writing down thoughts and I was off to a good start.
It became clear what God wanted me to say in this little book. I couldnt believe the strategies He, so simply, unveiled to me. They are all taken directly from the Bible. This book has some words that will serve as reminders and some that will bring a fresh perspective. I found myself having to stop and say no more, I only need fifty!
So carry these 50 Ways to Beat the Devil around with you. Get a boost from it on your lunch break or when it seems like the kids are from different parents! Get it engrained in your head that the devil does not get to rule you or run you he doesnt win. Give it to friends or loved ones who may struggle in their faith fight. Send it in a care package to your college student or your loved one in the military. Gift it at Christmas time or as a birthday gift. Keep one on your desk, in your car, in the bathroom! Let it be a constant reminder that you have many tools, many weapons for use in battle situations with the enemy.
I know this book will inspire you to study your Bible even more and develop your own prayers and confessions. Remember, it is full of tools and weapons. And no, this book does not containevery strategy just 50 of them. 50 good ones!
God is Sovereign and Jesus is Lord!
Creation is one of my favorite teachings in the Bible. And since were going to talk about how to beat the devil, we should begin in creation because he was defeated before we were created. Scripture says the Lord was our God before He created the earth and the world. (Ps. 90:1-2) Thats a powerful God and if you want to beat the devil you have to know without a shadow of a doubt that God is sovereign and that Jesus is Lord.
1. God knew you before He formed the world.
Think about that! Genesis 1 tells us that in the beginning the world was void and dark. And before there was light or sun, moon or stars or even an earth He knew we would come into the beautiful earth He would create. He built it for us. If we are going to beat that devil, weve got to know that God created this world for us! And weve got to love Him and serve Him like we have no other gods before us (Ex. 20:3)
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, Jeremiah 1:5
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Ephesians 1:4
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. Psalm 90:1-2
2. We were created in their image.
Gen. 1:26, And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion... Being created in the image of the God-head is extraordinary. It means we are meant to be like Him, to have His power, to follow His ways. Get to know your real self who you were created to be. You are a child of God, His most treasured creation the devil is no match for you! Youve got to know who you are.
3. God said he would always be under our feet.
Gen. 3:14-15, And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
When the first sin was committed it triggered a series of events that changed everything. First of all, God told the serpent in the garden that because he tricked Eve he would be cursed; sentenced to slither on his belly for all of his days. Then He said that the woman shall bruise the head of the serpent. He put that serpent, that evil one, under our feet. Ladies, put on those stilettos and stomp all over that devil! And if he raises his ugly head remember that stance the Karate Kid took, arms outstretched, leg in air. He makes that sound WAAAAO and that kick sends the assailant across the floor. Drop kick your enemy and then dance on his neck! You like stilettos dont you?
4. Unto us a Savior is born.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
After the sin, they knew that Jesus would have to come into the world in human form. God gave Him great characteristics a son with whom He was well pleased, the government shall be on his shoulder and we will call Him wonderful, counsellor, the mighty God, everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. A SAVIOR...a counselor...prince of peace your ammunition! Jesus is Lord and Jesus saves.
5. He is Sovereign.
Psalm 97:1 The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.
Our God is sovereign. He created this world without our help and He defeated the enemy before we got here. Merriam- Webster says one who is sovereign is a king or queen or one with supreme authority, power
