Chapter 1. Incarnation

In India, Hyderabads Parthdi named village lived a very poor man named Gangabhavdya. Devotion to God, spreading of religion, helping others and to take care of the holy men was his major interests. His maximum time used to be spent in the service of helpless people. Gangabhavdyas marriage took place with a lady named Devagiri Amma. Devagiri too was similar to her husband busy in religious works and was a lady of patience and satisfaction. In this way, both husband and wife being engrossed together in their devotion to God; lived their family life with peace and happiness.

Lord Shiva impressed with Gangabhavdya, and Devagiris devotion came in appeared in Devagiris dream. On seeing Lord Shiva Devagiris eyes started watering out of emotions. Due to overwhelm her throat got dried, than Lord Shiva told her, Dear daughter, I am very impressed by your and Gangabhavdyas devotion, and so I bless you with a boon that as Lord Rama from Kaushalya's womb and Lord Krishna from Devkis womb had taken birth for the betterment of the world; son will I take birth from your womb as your son. My, this birth will be popular by the name Sai, which will by destroying sin restore the sinners. Now you both go and stay in some lonely place so that before time no one should know about my birth. In this way after giving her, this boon Lord Shiva became invisible.

Due to the end of her this dream, Devagiri got up startled from her sleep. She woke up her sleeping husband and related him her dream and the boon that Lord Shiva had given her. Lord Shivas birth has his son, surprised Gangabhavdya. He felt happy for getting such a great opportunity. As per Lord Shivas commands, he decided at that moment to leave the village and went away to live in the nearby jungle. He built a hut close to the river and thereby became lost in his prayers, and Devagiri is taking care of her husband by heart also started waiting for the proper time.

Regular lost in prayers had made Gangabhavdya reached that pedestal where his emotions for the family and attachments for wife, child and anyone had no place in his life. This resulted that one-day Gangabhavdya leaving Devagiri sleeping took a Jal Samadhi. In the morning when Devagiri woke up, on finding her husband missing; she tried to search for him all around her hut, but she was unsuccessful in doing so. In the end, she understood that her husband Gangabhavdya has left his human body and completely become lost in God.

In the world, there is nothing without a husband. Now what will I do living without him with such thoughts in her mind Devagiri too decided to follow her husbands footsteps; but while doing so, she caught attention towards her womb and recollected her dream and Lord Shivas words, I will take birth and bring changes for better. Hence for the betterment of the world, she had to remain alive for some more time. Finally, with a heavy mind, she again came back to her hut and started spending her time in devotion to God.

At last the day for which Devagiri was waiting arrived; on 27th September, in the year 1838 on Thursday Sai Baba was born.

Since morning black clouds had covered the whole sky creating darkness all over along with loud thundering, such strong winds were blowing as though the wind has a motto to pick whole earth and throw away. It seemed as though for the change of period for the benefit of humanity has come. The manner in which nature was childishly showing its different colours during the birth of Lord Krishna, similarly the same childish way nature was expressing her joy and happiness in different manners. Since morning Devagiri had started having her labour pains. She had understood that the time when Lord Shiva would take birth from her womb. In the daytime at 3:0:0 Devagiri delivered a smart and charming child. At the time of birth on the infants face there was a quiet smile, seeing that smile the earth had cooled down and simultaneously sun came out in the sky drifting away from the clouds from above the earth.

After bath Devagiri sat with the child on the banks of the river, the child was crying out of hunger for which Devagiri breastfeed him; but due to excessive weakness she was unable to feed him, and slowly her breaths started going down, and within no time she passed away. This way Devagiri too abode away to God like her husband.

From nearby the jungle one way went by a village; at that time one bullock cart was passing by with a Sufi Saint with his wife sitting in it. Hearing the cries of the infant, he stopped the bullock cart and went in the direction of the sound of the cries. Nearby Devagiris dead body was lying. For a while seeing this sight Sufi closed his eyes; later on, took the infant and gave it to his wife.

The Sufi couple had been married since many long years but yet had no child; for having a child, they had made several efforts like; innumerable prayers, visits to religious places but still all these prayers had gone in vain.

On suddenly seeing a child in her lap, Sufis wife remained numb; after a while, she asked her husband, From where did you get this child? Who are his parents? Whether he is a Hindu child or a Muslim?
