FOREWORD
The moment I heard about this long-haired worship leader from California who was taking a bold stand to run for US Congress, my heart leapt with excitement. I knew that regardless of the outcome, this young, energetic leader would provide a wave of fresh perspective in a political arena that is experiencing the greatest battle of our time, one that will determine the future of our nation.
There are several reasons Sean struck me as a candidate worth endorsing, not least of which was his faith in God. Ive been a man of faith for as long as I can remember, and it is my faith that informs everything I set my hands toministry, politics, music, supporting my family. I see that very same value in Sean.
In many ways, our journeys share some incredible similarities. As worship leaders and preachers, we were both first called to serve the body of Christ through traditional ministry. Sean through worship, prayer, and missions; me through pastoral and denominational leadership. And then life presented us with detours.
We both made the leap from ministry to politics at a young age. In fact, my first step into the political arena was a campaign for Senate when I was close to Seans age. What then felt like a huge misstep (I didnt win) turned out to be Gods hand on my life. I found myself in a position to serve my state as lieutenant governor, and eventually as the 44th governor of Arkansas.
But why would God take a worship leader and missionary, or a Baptist pastor, and compel him to run for political office? Why detour his life so profoundly?
God has a way of creating opportunity from adversity and leading us toward the outcome that is His will, rather than the goal or dream that is ours. I have experienced this in my own life, and I can see it clearly in Seans as well.
Detours are those moments when were confident that were going in the right direction, God is even leading us in that direction, and then suddenly were taken off our path. I have had a lot of detours in my lifethe shift from ministry to politics, my presidential campaignsthose moments when I was heading in one direction and God guided me (sometimes quite suddenly) in another.
We have all experienced detours: broken dreams, broken hearts, hope deferred. We dont plan for them. We dont often like themexcept perhaps in retrospect. And we especially do not celebrate them. But the truth is, sometimes the detour leads to a far better destination than anything we can ever plan.
Romans 8:28 says, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
The Word of God is clear. Even when we think we are facing the worst of circumstances in life, God can transform it into something profoundly good.
He is so much bigger than our circumstances, problems, and pain. And when we begin to embrace that truth, and embrace the detours, we begin to see life from Gods perspective. We begin to live in radicalor brazenfaith.
Seans life story is full of detours; unexpected changes in course, career, and even calling. Yet, as his journey testifies, by choosing a life that puts trust and faith in God above all else, you will see things you never would have seen, and go places you never would have gone.
Like so many of us, he faced lifes detours with questions: God, is this You? Am I on the right path? But he did so while also demonstrating a profound focus on the Person of Christ, the One whose voice matters most of all. And the Lord was always faithful to answer, continually guiding Sean toward a destination he couldnt yet see.
I know full well the challenges we face when attempting to pursue the calling of God on our lives, especially when following His leading into the political world. It is not always easy to pursue the unknown and let His voice drown out the noise that surrounds us.
I believe this book, and Seans story of radical faith, will be a source of inspiration to a generation of worshipers. His pursuit of Gods calling on His life is an invitation for others to wholeheartedly chase Gods will and purposes on the earth.
We as a culture have lost focus and are no longer in tune with any standard, be it moral, spiritual, or otherwise. We are only in tune with what we want, the plans that we have for ourselves. This selfish approach to life is devastating our society and our nation.
Now, more than ever, we need brazen, faith-filled leaders to stand up and speak out. We need a generation of leaders who will boldly pursue much-desired change in our nation. We need those who will be willingly detoured from their own plans in order to fulfill Gods great plans for this world.
I was so proud to have the opportunity to endorse Seans political campaign and I am excited to see where God leads him in these trying days. Let his words and his story transform you and draw you into a deeper passion for God. It is time for us, as a nation, to stand up and live with brazen faith!

SUPER TUESDAY
Ill never forget that day.
I woke up that morning after a rough nights sleep. I am normally a very lighthearted, optimistic guy, but I felt knots in my stomach the second I got out of bed. I couldnt shake the anxiety and nervous tensionwhat would this day hold? I had heard from past candidates that there is a certain finality surrounding elections that is hard to explain. After eight months of pouring my heart, soul, and guts into something so demanding and so intense, I had arrived at the moment of truth. I abandoned so many other pursuits and this was my moment to see if it was all worth it. This was my payday.
I downed three shots of espresso over ice and then called my buddy, Aamon, who was running my campaign. He had moved his entire family across the country from Oklahoma to California a few months prior in response to a crazy word from God and to help me win a seat in the US Congress. Aamon was the direct answer to prayer. I had thrown out a fleece before the Lord, asking God to provide a high-caliber, big-thinking boss to guide this campaign if we had any shot at winning. God answered my prayer through a random meetingone of my friends met Aamon in a hot tub at a resort. He works in mysterious ways, I guess!
