Authors Note
I am delighted to present my second book offering, 14 years after the first, Master the Mind Monkey: Experience Your Excellence .
Through this period, I did not really feel like writing another book. I was convinced I have already said what I wanted to say in book form. My interactions with people through training sessions, workshops and informal lectures continued. The response was most gratifying. The participants shared many new anecdotes and experiences, highlighting the transformation that was happening in their lives as a result of these interactions. I kept experiencing the Moortis in people around me in a deeply moving manner. I kept learning and growing from these experiences.
I also created a group on Facebook to enable members to stay in touch with the learnings discussed in the book. I wrote my own blogs and readers responded with their comments and experiences.
The format of the main workshop on which the first book is based is lengthy (four days on a once-a-week basis) and increasingly difficult to implement in todays fast-paced life. Also, the book has some heavy chapters, delving into the intricacies of the Mind and Reality that are difficult to grasp at first reading. New methodologies were needed to make the communication more user-friendly and suited to the changing milieu. Therefore, this attempt.
The basic theme of this book is not very different from the first one. We are still on the theme of getting more out of life with inner peace and happiness. However, the route is different and I believe, easier to adopt. The theme is presented in three parts.
The first part, From Mind Monkey to Moorti Within, provides the basic template for relating to the terminologies used (Monkey, Moorti, Content, Context and Concept), and shows the route to making the transition from being in the clutches of the Mind Monkey to awakening the Moorti Within with its power of Natural Knowing. This is really where you Awaken Your Awareness.
The second part, Experiencing Transformation Just in the Process of Life Itself, recounts anecdotes and real-life experiences shared by participants in my workshops. These come from different parts of daily lifeat home, at work, in social situations, while dealing with bureaucracy, in daily commutes and also when on holiday travels. Some are individual experiences and some are as groups. In some of the narrations, you may find a reference to the workshop in which they participated with me.
The third part, The Path Is Created by Walking, consists of triggers for self-introspection. These are in no particular order and each one stands on its own. The idea here is that you open any page of this part of the book and reflect inwardly on the statements made. Maybe it would trigger an aha moment. Maybe it will awaken your awareness.
Any time you feel you need to go deeper into the understanding of the Mind Monkey and the Moorti or the Reality around us, feel free to go back to the first book, Master the Mind Monkey: Experience your Excellence .
Before ending this note, let me say a big thank you to my old friend Dr. Joaquim (Joe) Mascarenhas who has been very supportive in making this book happen.
Happy reading.
To the Moorti Within You
ESTABLISHED IN 1946, Jaico Publishing House is home to worldtransforming authors such as Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, Osho, The Dalai Lama, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Robin Sharma, Deepak Chopra, Jack Canfield, Eknath Easwaran, Devdutt Pattanaik, Khushwant Singh, John Maxwell, Brian Tracy and Stephen Hawking.
Our late founder Mr. Jaman Shah first established Jaico as a book distribution company. Sensing that independence was around the corner, he aptly named his company Jaico (Jai means victory in Hindi). In order to service the significant demand for affordable books in a developing nation, Mr. Shah initiated Jaicos own publications. Jaico was Indias first publisher of paperback books in the English language.
While self-help, religion and philosophy, mind/body/spirit, and business titles form the cornerstone of our non-fiction list, we publish an exciting range of travel, current affairs, biography, and popular science books as well. Our renewed focus on popular fiction is evident in our new titles bya host of fresh young talent from India and abroad. Jaicos recently established Translations Division translates selected English content into nine regional languages.
In addition to being a publisher and distributor of its own titles, Jaico is a major national distributor of books of leading international and Indian publishers. With its headquarters in Mumbai, Jaico has branches and sales offices in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Lucknow.
The Moorti Within
look back at the times when you got a kick of joy from having achieved something out of the ordinary in your life. Something that made you go Yay!; filled you with motivation, energy and hope for the future.
It can be anything mundane, like cooking a new dish, or something significant, like achieving the sales target in a difficult territory under adverse circumstances. Or something like helping out beyond your call of duty in the COVID-19 pandemic. It may be something you achieved as a kid or as an adult. It could be anything from personal, social or work life, it doesnt matter which.
Lets call these events your experiences of excellence. They dont have to fit any external definition of the word. As long as you identify them as your moments of mini triumphs, that is enough. Its immaterial if you have any external certification for it or not.
Now, look a little more closely into these experiences and identify what was or were the most critical factor or factors that enabled the creation of the great result. What quality or attribute within you do you associate with the achievement? Can we draw some generalization from it?
I have been asking participants this in my interactions over the last two decades. I have covered thousands of respondents from all age groups (adults largely), men and women, professionals, students, homemakers, irrespective of religion, mother tongue, state or nationality.
In all cases, without exception, the top 1012 words I get in response are the following: Passion, Commitment, Self-Confidence, Determination, Dedication, Zeal, Perseverance, Obsession, Inspiration, Persistence, Focus, Positivity, Humanity and Responsibility.
Do the words you selected fit somewhere among these? Can you identify with, relate to these words? If yes, lets move on.
Do you see the good news and the bad news embedded there?
First, the bad news. Do notice that none of these words have anything to do with the skill or knowledge you possess! Amazing but true. We spend so much time, money and energy in acquiring more and more skills and knowledge, but they have very little to do with excellence. Notice that skill and knowledge are not things inherent within us; they have to be acquired and practised with effort.
