Disclaimer
I believe there is great value in using essential oils for healing the mind, body, and spirit. Essential oils have historically proven healing properties and therapeutic value. However, you should not substitute the ideas and methods in this book for traditional medical care. Seek advice from your physician for your conditions and use this book with common sense.
The information is presented for educational purposes only and is not intended to diagnose or prescribe for any medical or psychological condition, nor to prevent, treat, mitigate, or cure such conditions. The information herein is not intended as medical advice but rather a sharing of knowledge and information based on research and experience.
Each body reacts differently to natural products and essential oils. One person may have great results with an oil and another may present an allergic reaction. Essential oils are potent and must be used with caution. Always do a patch test on your skin and a gentle smell test to make sure you are using an essential oil that is compatible with your unique chemistry. The bottom line of advice is to do your research and always dilute essential oils before using them, especially with children, as they can have stronger reactions than adults.
Acknowledgments
My first thank-you must go to the godmother of this book, my incredible agent Lisa Hagan. Not only did she have faith in essential oils, she also had faith in me and suggested I write this book. Without her this tome would not exist. Thank you so much Lisa of Lisa Hagan Literary and Lisa Hagan Books. My gratitude is deeper than the ocean.
My second bent-knee curtsey of gratitude goes to Marlene Morris, who read and proofed every word and smoothed every paragraph that may have had a ragged edge or a dangling participle. I share this book with her and am profoundly beholden to her for her patience, unfaltering confidence, cheerleading abilities, and her magnificent show of support.
The third pillar of this three-legged stool is Lisa Tenzin-Dolma, who not only has earned my respect and admiration as an author but also my undying gratitude for her time and effort. She proofread and corrected this book so I could hand it over to my publisher with pride and fewer typos.
Special thanks go to Beth Wareham for her advice, support, and scholarly contributions in the making of this tome. She was a delight to work with!
Lastly, I want to especially thank the very talented and dedicated Registered Aroma Therapist Kelly Holland Azzaro, who is also a Certified Clinical Aromatherapy Practitioner, Certified Bach Flower Practitioner, and a Licensed Massage Therapist. Her hours of help and clarification with the content of this book were out-of-this-world generous and have made it a better book by far.
Introduction
Did essential oils find you, or did you find them? I ask only because the world works in mysterious ways sometimes and you could be on the verge of changing your entire life by learning more about essential oils, their healing properties, and how they can enrich your life.
Obviously something has piqued your interest and drawn you to explore essential oils. Are you just curious? Did you read an article about essential oils and think they sounded interesting? Perhaps a massage therapist dropped some fragrant essences into your massage oil and you cant get the scent out of your mind. In the end, it doesnt matter how you got here, just that you did.
If this is your first foray into essential oils, let me be the first to welcome you into this enchanting world of fragrance, healing, and natural resources. The information in this book will help you learn about the oils, their properties, safe usage, and it will give you a basis for building your own relationship with them. If you allow them to, essential oils will transport you into a brand new world of aromatic sense awakening, physical healing, and natural delights.
