For the Children
Welcome to Duck Commander Devotions for Kids! We are so excited about this book and honored that you have chosen it as a resource for your children. For a few years now, our family has been in the public eye with our TV show, Duck Dynasty. If you are a weekly viewer, thank you for supporting us. Our prayer is that the TV show honors God and gives families an opportunity to share their lives as they watch the show together. We also hope the show opens the door for deeper discussions about faith and family.
We are a mother-daughter team, and it has been such fun as we wrote each devotion to recall events that our children, siblings, and parents have gone through. We have tried to make Gods words come to life through the use of family stories. These stories are not from the reality show, but from real life. We know that your family has learned many of the same lessons. Of course, your stories might sound a little different from ours (that is, unless you live on a swamp in Louisiana and make duck calls). We hope you enjoy sharing the contents of this book with your children. We love reading to and with our children and know that storytelling is one of the best ways to get a message across to kids. As you read, remember to add your own story. Your kids will love it if you do! Happy reading and studying!
Hugs and Blessings,
Welcome to Duck Commander Devotions for Kids! We are so happy that you are going to spend some time getting to know God better through this book. We love to read, but we know that reading isnt for everyone so we worked hard to make these messages short, fun, and meaningful. As you read each page, think about your life and the lessons you have already learned. Who knows? One day you might write a book!
We know that God has big plans for your life. Our advice is to keep your eyes open to see and your ears ready to hear. That way when God has something important for you to see and hear, youre ready. May God bless you in all you do.
Hugs and Blessings,
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb. They make a person happy and healthy.
Proverbs 16:24
Poor little Bella was a pacifier addict. Perhaps you were too. A lot of babies love their pacifiers and when its time to give it up, they dont want to. But when Korie decided to take her pacifier away, Bella discovered a good thingwithout the pacifier in her mouth, she could talk! Soon she was asking for cookies and juice and telling her older brother, Will, No! Now Bella had a voice and a choice about how to use it.
A voice means you have words to use, which means you also have words to choose. Did you know that your words are super powerful? You have the power to change someones day just by the words you choose to use. Its true! You can say, Im so glad youre my friend, and that person will go through the day feeling happy and encouraged. But if you say something like, Youre no fun. I dont want to play with you, that person will feel sadall because of what you said. Making the choice to use kind words says a lot about who you are. When you let your words hurt someone, youre making a bad choice. When you use your words to build someone up, that is using your voice to make God happy.
Dear God, I want to bless other people, not hurt them. Please help me use my words to help others. In Jesus name, Amen.
DUCK Commander in ACTION
Use your words wisely. Refuse to say words that are angry, mean, or hurtful to others. Today is a good day to speak kindly to the kids in your class and in your neighborhood. Think about it like this: there are special sprays that will waterproof your boots so rain will roll right off them. Using kind words helps to waterproof the people you love, causing other unkind words to roll right off them. You will be like a kindness umbrella, covering your friends and brothers and sisters with love!
