FOREWORD

The prophet is a spiritual leader, one who declares the oracles of God. Indeed, the prophet is a gift to the Church.

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip Gods people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12, NLT).

The Scripture clearly teaches that the office of the prophet, along with the other leadership offices, comes with a heavy weight of responsibility, a mandate to properly equip Gods people. To be a prophet of God is a divine calling, a heavenly assignment.

In addition to the prophetic office, God has also graced His Church with believers who operate in prophetic gifts.

He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy (1 Corinthians 12:10, NLT).

Together, both the operation and the office of the prophetic work to guide, lead, encourage, comfort, and edify Gods people.

But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3, KJV).

Whether youre called to carry the influence and leadership authority that come with the office of the prophet or you desire to operate in a prophetic gift, you desire a good thing. And the very fact that you are reading this book on the prophetic is an indicator that you have a spiritual hunger for the glorious working that is prophetic ministry.

Now, among all of the five office gifts mentioned in the book of Ephesians, perhaps the most often criticized and most intensely scrutinized is the office of the prophet.

Certainly, in the world of the prophetic, there have been abuses. There have been issues. There have been fakes. And there have been those who were prematurely released into ministry. Social media can provide a platform to anyone who wants it, whether or not they have gone through the spiritual process of maturing. Anyone can claim a title. Anyone can skip the process. Anyone can claim to be prophetic.

Many apply psychology and call it discernment. Some practice cold reading and call it the word of knowledge. And others make guesses about the future and call it prophecy. Life coaching and commercialization have polluted the prophetic. No doubt, there are frauds who flood our social media time lines, televisions, and pulpits. They prophesy from their imaginations.

Then this message came to me from the LORD: Son of man, prophesy against the false prophets of Israel who are inventing their own prophecies. Say to them, Listen to the word of the LORD. This is what the Sovereign LORD says: What sorrow awaits the false prophets who are following their own imaginations and have seen nothing at all!
