DEDICATION
The Lord spoke to me, The fate of the nation (USA) is in the hands of the Church. My prayer is that the men and women standing behind the pulpits of our churches would grasp the gravity of this hour. More than ever we need leaders who know how to attract and host the presence and glory of God. I enthusiastically dedicate this book to all the faithful pastors who are leading us into the greatest move of God the world has ever seen.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Special thanks to my wife, Karen. You have never stopped encouraging me to keep pressing onward. Your constant support has propelled me to start and finish this book. Your pursuit of the Word of God and its Author, at times has left me speechless. Your love for me and our boys is the backbone of our family. Thanks for always seeing the positive in all things.
I also want to express my deep love and appreciation to the people I get to do life with every daythe executive and support staff at Christ Fellowship Church. I am thankful for the integrity, passion, and hunger you have for the Lord and His work. Only history will reveal the full impact your lives and ministries are having on this generation. You have been chosen for this moment.
FROM DESPERATION TO REVIVAL
METEORITES AND FIREWATER
A revived church is the only hope for a dying world.
A NDREW M URRAY
O n Monday December 10, 1984, at approximately 5:30 in the afternoon, a small, quiet southern town was hit by a 3-pound meteorite traveling more than 300 mph. The extraterrestrial rock fell out of the sky and struck the metal mailbox belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Carutha Barnard in Claxton, Georgia, a town best known for its adventurous rattlesnake round-ups and also known the world over for its fruitcake. In fact, it has been unofficially tagged The Fruitcake Capital of the World. However, everything changed on this otherwise uneventful day when the sky rock plummeted into the town and hit the infamous mailbox. Why infamous mailbox? Years later a meteorite collector paid $83,000 for that broken mail receptor. Thus named the most expensive mailbox in the world.
Also in Georgia there is another small, quiet town of about 3,100 residents, Dawsonville, where I pastor Christ Fellowship Church. Dawsonville is approximately fifty miles northeast of Atlanta. We are famous for three things: 1) NASCAR racing; 2) Georgias tallest waterfall, Amicalola Falls; and 3) moonshine. Each year in October our quaint hometown hosts more than 100,000 people attending the Mountain Moonshine Festival.
I do believe the Lord has a sense of humor, heres why. Society has multiple names for illicitly distilled liquor including: moonshine; white lightning; hooch; mash liquor; homebrew; mountain dew; and my favorite, firewater. I find it funny that God chose to visit Dawsonvillehost to an international moonshine festivaland give new meaning to the word firewater!

HE STEPPED INTO THE ROOM
The first thing most churches need to do is get God to attend.
S TEVE G RAY
I wasnt scheduled to be in the classroom that night, but Karen, my wife, chancellor of the KINEO Ministry Training Center invited me to address her students. For several weeks she had been teaching about the past: Revivals and Revivalists. She highlighted how these moves of God in the past transformed entire communities, regions, and nations. For example, the Welsh Revival, Azusa Street, the Awakenings, Hebrides Revival, etc., were all mentioned and discussed.
My assignment was clear; I was to share about our experiences with revival and particularly the Pensacola Outpouring at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida. Even though I was thrilled about communicating my experience, I intended to be in the classroom no more than fifteen minutes.
As Karen and I addressed the class and responded to questions, it became apparent the students thirst and hunger for God was extremely high. The discussion wasnt surface oriented or a casual curiosity; no, there was a depth to it. A desperation and longing for Him was everywhere. Collectively, the students wanted to know why couldnt He do it again, right now and right here at our church?
The more we talked, the more their hunger intensified.
Then it happened. God stepped into the room. I know that seems like an unusual statement, but He came. He didnt announce His arrival; He softly entered the classroom and walked among us.
We all knew something just occurred, the atmosphere changed; the dynamics of the room in an instant shifted. It was a moment none of us will ever forget. The twenty-five students pushed their chairs away from the table and each fell to the floorsome to their knees, some flat on the floorwith their faces bowed. Karen and I joined them. Many cried out for mercy, some worshipped, while others just wept. I could hear them sobbing, wailing, and openly repenting. The more we repented, the more He manifested.
The moment was heavenly and otherworldly. Jesus walked among us. He was tenderly yet fervently revealing Himself to the groupyet to each of us individually at the same time. It was holy, no one moved or drew attention to themselves. We were in a moment that not many people get to experience. I committed to do whatever necessary to experience Him again.
Nothing Happened for a Year
Can you imagine what I was thinking? Because of that experience, I expected our church to be in a season of growth and revival. I just knew God was going to visit us the following Sunday morning the same way He visited us in the classroom. My faith was soaring and my joy was through the roof. Guess what? The following Sunday was less than spectacular; it was just a normal Sunday. Honestly, it was as if what took place in the classroom never happened. To say I was disappointed, discouraged, and frustrated is putting it mildly. I truly expected God to do on Sunday morning what He did at KINEO Ministry Training Center.
