Welcome back!
Picture 12

I n 2013, I published a collection of 30 devotions titled The Jesus Diet: How the Holy Spirit Coached Me to a 50-Pound Weight Loss . In this book, I shared about my own journey toward improved spiritualand as a result, physicalhealth.

Now it is two years later. If I could have foreseen then what these two years would bring me, I might have crouched behind the couch with a bag of chocolate chips and just waited for the storm to pass. I guess thats why God didnt give me the gift of foresight.

You see, Ive had a few difficult seasons since weve last talked. Some of these storms I have handled beautifully (if I do say so myself), completely leaning on my God and walking triumphantly as I did so. But other times, I wasnt so wise. Other times, I gave way to fear, anxiety, and grief. And there were times when I fell back into old eating habits as a way of comforting or medicating myself.

So, if youre looking to find me now, two years post-first book, as a size two bikini model, ha! Thats not happening. There were days I had to run as fast as I could just to stay in one place. But if youre looking to find me now as someone still fighting the fight, still sure God will deliver me, one day at a time, then youve found her. I have had some hard days, but I thank God for them. I have never been so sure of my Gods faithfulness as I am now. When I have sought him, I have found him, always with open arms.

The response to The Jesus Diet has been miraculous. I have met so many beloved brothers and sisters, and I thank God for each of you. I have been praying for your health, and if the Spirit prompts you to pray the same for me, I would be grateful.

To those new to The Jesus Diet , welcome. God wants you to be healthy. And he can make you healthy. All you have to do is let him. All you have to do is get yourself out of the way. As I continue to fight the fight, I invite you to join me. But remember, this is not about me telling you what to do. I simply want to share my testimony. Because if I can lose weight, anyone can with Gods help.

Big, big love,

~ Robin

Remember: This Is War
Picture 16

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. (2 Corinthians 10:34)

Picture 17

W eight loss success began for me when I recognized my overeating as a spiritual battle. People have questioned this assertion. I have even second-guessed myself. An annoying little voice pops up and says something like, Be reasonable Robin. There are no spiritual forces at work here. Its just an Oreo. Youve really gone off the deep end.

But I think the Word is pretty clear. Our struggle is against the forces of darkness and the spiritual forces of wickedness (Eph. 6:12). Why wouldnt Satan want me miserable? Why wouldnt he want me tired and unhealthy? If he can keep us out of the fight with a few Twinkies, well then, hes got it made!

And if we recognize that this is indeed a spiritual battle, we also must recognize that we need to fight back spiritually. Paul writes that our weapons are not of the flesh. We must fight with weapons that have divine power. Divine power! How can we lose if were fighting with divine power?

Lies take root in our hearts and flourish. They weave together to create seemingly impenetrable fortresses. We cant do something we want to do because of this stronghold of deception in our lives. We cannot destroy these spiritual fortresses with our own power. We need divine power.

We cannot fight spiritual battles with fleshly weapons (e.g., the latest fad diet or miracle pill). We must draw on the power of God, the power of the cross, the power of the Word to tear down these strongholds one by one. This is war, and when we pretend that it isnt, we lose.

Picture 18

P rayer:

Heavenly Father, I do not understand all that goes on in the spiritual realm, but I know that I dont have to. All I have to do is rely on you and your power. Please help me to do this, Father. Please arm me with your weaponry and help me to tear down the strongholds standing between us. Amen.
