Do you want to explore your creative potential? For seventeen years, I have been using astrology to encourage people to do just that, employing their birthchart as a catalyst to creativity. With this book, I would like to share what Ive learned as an astrologer who loves people more than astrology. I believe using the human heartyour ownis the fastest way to learn the symbol system of astrology.

Intuition and heart are deeply relatedthey both require being receptive to what cannot be proven. I would like to invite you on an adventure into that territory, exploring the symbolism of the planets in your birthchart as they pose certain questions to you. Who are you? Where are you going? There are no right or wrong answers to these questions, but I believe each of us is capable of intuiting the best answers for ourselves.

This book is designed to encourage you to appreciate your unique talents through the lens of astrology, with the goal of sharing those talents and enriching the community around you. I will directly assist you in the development of your intuitive skills, in order to explore your story from within, as well as give you sound information about the basic symbolism of planets, signs, and housesthe three components of astrology.

The question I want to ask you as you read this book is: Whatam I meant to grow? The journal exercises in each chapter are designed to help you explore that question in a personal and meaningful way.

But before we embark on that adventure, I would like to describe my own beginnings, so that you can understand the ground from which I grew and how I came to be a practitioner of intuitive astrology.

The Ground from Which I Grew

My introduction to the creative life was through food. Who madethis? I wanted to know, as the plump sweetness of a perfectly ripened strawberry exploded in my mouth at the age of two. Had it come from my father, who planted the garden? Or from the earth, the sun, the rain? There was no clear answer to these questions, but at that early age I decided we were all here to grow things, and the earth itselfnaturewas the master teacher.

My broader introduction to the creative life was through my family, all of whom, like the earth, grew things. They were colorful characters at the heart of a village filled with people who, like us, were second- or third-generation villagers.

There were twelve square blocks in our southern town, four churches, and one synagogue. Church was both entertainment and glue for the community. The community cared for its own, and this lifestyle had gone on for generations, a bedrock beneath us; it was also creative, as love in motion, responding when you lost your health, spouse, money, or laugh. Our town was the center of the universe, a solar system unto itself, a careful structure of checks and balances, cohesive and whole.

Extended-family households were more common than not, with several generations often living in one home. In our case, my grandparents house was separated from ours by a few thousand feet. From my bedroom, if the window was open, I could hear my grandmother sneeze on her back porch.

Everyone grew something he was called to create. My grandfather grew vegetables, fruit trees, pecan trees, figs, pomegranates, and grapes. My grandmother grew roses, moonflowers, irises, gardenias, and camellias. My father grew compost, piles and piles of compost, for his own roses and our vegetable garden. My mother grew stories; she memorized who said what to whom and why. She grew photograph albums, which celebrated every chapter of our lives, every visitor and occasion. My sister grew networks of people. She joined clubs or grew new clubschurch clubs, school clubs, exchange-group clubs.
