Whether youve selected a Word for the Year before, or youre brand new to the concept, welcome! This One Word One Year Faith Journey is Christian based. This book is a guided journal filled with faith prompts and activities to help you grow in your Christian walk by being intentional with your One Word. The first section of this book walks you through choosing your One Word for the year. Once youve selected your One Word, the monthly journal prompts will encourage, challenge, guide, assist and lead you into taking the next steps in your faith journey. These prompts are designed to change your outlook, shift your mindset, nourish your soul and allow God to work through every area of your life. Are you up for the adventure of trusting Him more fully? Are you ready for a year focused on drawing nearer to Him?
This 12 month guided journal is not a New Years resolution goal-setting workbook, but instead a guide to direct you closer to God by having a One Word focus. This intentional focus powered by the Spirits leading will allow you to make lasting spiritual, mental and even physical changes in your life. This is a yearlong study that can be started anytime. Typically most begin this process every January, but dont let timing stop you from starting this journey. No matter what month of the year, pick up this guide and start right at the beginning.
The One Word you choose for the year doesnt hold any power of course, its just a simple word. The Almighty God, or the Trinity, (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is the one who holds all the power and Hes already at work in you, no matter what word you choose. He has the power to not only lead you to choose One Word for the year, but to work through your One Word and redirect you, encourage you, strengthen you, grow you and draw you closer to Him. He does the work. You make the decision to follow, trust and submit to Him as He works in your life.
Choosing One Word to intentionally focus on throughout the year, provides a constant redirect to remember your intentions. A resolution usually leads to frustration and failure. However, focusing on One Word doesnt show youve failed, but continues to show up throughout your days and causes you to take notice. Each time you come across your One Word, whether in print, speech or sound, you will find yourself stopping and noticing. That pause will cause you to think, re-adjust, take action and be drawn to God. You can use your One Word as a constant reminder to direct yourself to Him and your One Word intentions all year long, every day, every hour, minute by minute.
You decide how much energy and effort to put into this. You can journal every day or once a month. You can write out thoughts for every prompt, or just for the prompts you want. You can participate in all the activities or just a few. You can hold monthly gatherings with a small group and complete this journey with friends, or privately work through it yourself. You decide.
Begin this journey by reading through the section titled, Choosing Your One Word and complete the suggested prompts and activities. Write out your thoughts and ideas right in this book. After choosing and committing to One Word for the year, begin the Monthly Prompts starting with Month 1. Work through each prompt and write out your thoughts. This can be done daily, completing a little at a time, weekly or even once or twice a month. Do what works for you. If there isnt enough space to write out all you want to record, use an additional blank journal alongside this book.
In addition to the Monthly Prompts, each month youll be asked to add a new scripture to your One Word Scripture Collection. The scriptures you collect should relate to your One Word and encourage you. These can be hand-written on index cards or kept digitally on your phone or tablet. At the end of the year, you will have collected scripture truths that will encourage you in your One Word. Maybe you will even challenge yourself to memorize them?
At the end of each month are Optional Creative Activities to complete with your One Word. Creating with your One Word can be very beneficial. Not only does it provide a creative outlet to apply your One Word to, but it gives you various art and objects to place in your home or workplace. When you see those objects, youll immediately be redirected to your One Word intentions. At the back of this book on page 141, you will find a section titled, More Creative Art Activities . These additional activities are to inspire you to bring creative life and art to your One Word. These can also be used as small group activities if youre completing this journey with others.
In addition to creative activities, you will also be given the opportunity to write out your thanksgivings to God in the Give Thanks Challenge . By recording things you are thankful for, your mind shifts from focusing on yourself to noticing and thanking God. In a gratitude-seeking state of mind, you are reminded that there is always something to be thankful for. The very act of giving thanks and writing it down, confirms that God is good, faithful and trustworthy. There are approximately 84 blank lines each month to write out your gratitude to God. If you write down 84 thanksgivings for every month of the year (or about 3 a day), you will have over 1000 at the end of the year! Challenge yourself to give thanks to the Lord during this entire journey. Giving thanks can be for the big thanksgivings, miracles, gifts and answered prayers in your lifeAND for the small, tiny little things God has you noticing. Record them all!
Optional Tracking Charts are also included every month. These can be used however you see fit with your One Word intentions. You may want to track a new monthly routine or habit, by filling in the dated bubbles as you complete a chosen activity. The charts could also be used to stop a negative habit, by filling in the bubbles every time you are successful. Tracking charts give you a visual of your intentions and successes. These charts can encourage and motivate you as you see your progress over time.
