Introduction
It is with great joy that we introduce our new devotional and Bible study to you. We are so passionate about the content, and we are hopeful that you will find lots of relevant information to help you at school and at home. After leading the Girls of Grace conferences for the past three years, we are even more inspired by your lives and testimonies. We understand so much more now just how hard it is to live where you live, to be a teenage girl in our culture. We pray often for all of youthat your convictions will be strong and able to withstand the pressure of all that is coming toward you. It is also our prayer that God will keep you in His care and protect you always. Girls, dont ever forget who you are in Christ and that with the power of the Holy Spirit living in you, you truly can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
In this book we have really tried to make it real for you. We have shared our hearts on a variety of topics, including gossip, self-esteem, mentors, and more. Just as youve shared your hearts with us through the years, we hope to inspire you by sharing ours. We want you to know us better when you complete this devotional and Bible study, and we think that you will. But more than that, it is our prayer that you would know our precious Lord better, and that He will continue to shape and mold you to be more like Him.
All our love,
the real Shelley

the gift of gab
If we can control our tongues, well have the discipline to control ourselves in every other way.
Proverbs 15:26 NLT
The L ORD delights in pure words.
Mighty Mouth
Weve all done it, havent we?
You know how it works: our mind formulates some negative or rude comment that makes its way to our tongue faster than a speeding bullet, and bam!out it comes, wounding whoever is in its path. The book of Proverbs says, Reckless words pierce like a sword (12:18). Now, Ive never actually been pierced by a sword, but something tells me it would really hurt!
Have you ever been really hurt? I dont mean physically, like by a sword or from a broken arm; I mean emotionally raked over the coals. Have the words of someone ever cut to the quick of your soul and made your feelings cry out, Ouch!? Let me pose another question to you: have you ever really hurt someone else? Have you said something that wounded another person deeply, something you wished so badly you could take back, but the bullet had already been fired?
