CONTENTS
This book consists of 152 practice stations for the Royal College of Psychiatrists Clinical Assessment of Skills and Competencies (CASC) examination. The stations have been designed to reflect the style and the types of stations commonly encountered in the MRCPsych examination at the time of this writing.
The first 135 stations modelled against the core themes have been tested in the recent MRCPsych CASC examination. While conventional CASC revision materials provide trainees with only a description of the task required in each station and the core points to cover, this book differentiates itself from other revision materials. In each of the stations covered, we provide trainees with additional information such as an outline of the station and a CASC grid with questions commonly asked in each station. The CASC grid aims to help both junior and senior trainees remember what to ask in each station. In addition, we have provided a brief synopsis of relevant conceptual information that trainees need to meet the requirements and obtain a passing grade for each station. References are provided to which the reader can refer if they are in doubt about any of the theoretical concepts.
In addition, the authors have conceptualized 15 new stations. In the MRCPsych CASC examination, it is not uncommon for entirely new stations to appear. The authors hope that including these new stations will help trainees prepare for any unexpected stations in the membership examination. The new stations have been conceptualized based on the clinical experiences of the authors as well as the latest updates on mental health information issued by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Trainees who are preparing for the MRCPsych examination are still encouraged to keep themselves up to date with the latest regulations and guidance issued by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
We welcome any feedback from our readers. Please also let us know further types of questions you would like to see in the next edition of this book.
We wish to again thank all the authors who have contributed to this revision guidebook.
