For over 35 years, biological scientists have come to rely on the research protocols and methodologies in the critically acclaimedMethods in Molecular Biologyseries. The series was the first to introduce the step-by-step protocols approach that has become the standard in all biomedical protocol publishing. Each protocol is provided in readily-reproducible step-by-step fashion, opening with an introductory overview, a list of the materials and reagents needed to complete the experiment, and followed by a detailed procedure that is supported with a helpful notes section offering tips and tricks of the trade as well as troubleshooting advice. These hallmark features were introduced by series editor Dr. John Walker and constitute the key ingredient in each and every volume of theMethods in Molecular Biologyseries. Tested and trusted, comprehensive and reliable, all protocols from the series are indexed in PubMed.

Preface

Welcome to the firstMethods in Molecular Biologyedition onToxoplasma gondii. Chapters in this book have been commissioned by leaders in the field and have been designed to cover a diverse array of protocols currently being used by theToxoplasmaresearch community. I have been sure to include protocols that have been standard in the field for many years, as well as those that are pushing the boundaries of what is possible. This will hopefully mean that this volume will be useful for students or groups starting off in the field, as well as for those labs wanting to implement some of the latest techniques that have been developed by other groups.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the authors that have contributed to this volume; almost everyone that I approached was willing to contribute. Furthermore, it is a testament to the openness of our community thatToxoplasmaresearch groups are so willing to share techniques that have taken years to develop and refine so that others may use these precious resources. It has been a pleasure to edit this volume, and I hope you all enjoy reading it. My wish is that this edition will help all those that want to crack some of the many mysteries thatToxoplasmastill possesses.
