Introduction

As a critical care physician, I spend my days caring for sick patients. I see a lot of suffering, but I also get a lot of satisfaction from using my medical training and scientific knowledge to help people.

Thats why I wrote this book. People are needlessly suffering from skin conditions that could be treated with the use of cannabidiol, better known as CBD. Skin conditions are not as dire as some of the trauma that I see in the hospital, but their itching, pain, and embarrassment can negatively affect a persons life.

Its not just the itching and pain, both of which CBD is uniquely suited to combat. Skin conditions also cause secondary psychological trauma. If you have ever dealt with a serious outbreak of psoriasis in a highly visible area of your body, or some other skin condition, you know the humiliation of having someone step away from you in line at a coffee shop. Its difficult for anybody to look in the mirror and feel happy and content when what they see is an angry red rash with flaking skin and scratch marks.

I suffered from a severe skin condition that caused extreme pain and embarrassment until CBD gave me the ultimate relief I was seeking. My health journey led others I know to try CBD, and they also had their lives changed for the better. That made me want to know more, so I decided to dig in and learn as much as I could about CBD. I came to the study of CBD with a lot of training in science and medicine. I graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and did my residency at Georgetown. Then I founded my own practice and became a hospitals chief medical officer. This book doesnt get sucked into the hype about CBD; rather, it focuses on the science. There is a vast amount of research about CBD, and its an area of study that is rapidly growing. As I scoured the medical journals, I discovered dozens of studies showing the positive effects of CBD. I also spoke to researchers, and they explained the way CBD is transforming the way we think about treatment for many ailments.

My personal experience and subsequent discovery of the science and research into CBD compelled me to write this book. I wanted to get the word out and help others who were struggling with similar skin conditions. Beyond that, I want to be part of the medical vanguard opening the door to all kinds of uses for CBD and medical cannabis. I believe, and the evidence shows, that CBDs powerful curative properties were key to my recovery. I am convinced that this amazing cannabinoid can be an incredible medical and beauty resource.

I could have focused this book more broadly on general health concerns because there are wide applications for CBD. But we dont all have migraines or chronic pain. We do all have skin that needs regular maintenance and healing. The skin is the bodys largest and most visible organ. CBD is an ideal multi-purpose tool to care for it.
