One of my mantras has always been, You cant help getting older, but you dont have to look older. I know that life is not a dress rehearsal, so why not put your best face forward all the time?
Introduction
If we are truly honest with ourselves, we all want to look and feel our personal best, each and every day of our lives. For some of us, that means exercising our bodies to keep ourselves toned and physically strong. Exercising the body also offers positive mental benefits by making us feel more secure, energetic and optimistic about our lives. But exercising the body will not change our face. Many people look in the mirror and see an image that does not truly reflect how they feel inside. In an attempt to change what they see, they often take drastic measures, such as surgery, only to be disappointed. I am here to tell you that you dont need surgery or chemicals to look as young as you feel and that you can control what happens to your face as you age. With a little time, dedication and discipline, you too can have a face to match the way you feel inside.
For as long as I can remember, I have had a fascination with beauty. When I was in college, I used to enjoy applying treatments to and makeup on my friends in the dorm, to enhance their natural beauty. We are all given a unique palette to work with and, to me, natural beauty is a radiance and glow that shines from within. Its easy to lose this as we age as our complexion dulls, our eyes become hooded rather than open, our mouths droop down. But with a little time and dedication, we can restore our own natural beauty. In fact, we can remain beautiful and youthful throughout our entire lives. For me, remaining youthful isnt about looking a certain age, its about looking the best I can for the age that I am.
Through this book, I hope to offer you the promise of renewed natural beauty by using my Ultimate Facercise program. You dont need to resort to plastic surgery, Botox, fillers and the like to create a more youthful countenance. You do, however, need to set goals for yourself, commit to the plan, perform the exercises correctly and, above all, be consistent and patient.
Ill also advise you on how quality nutrition, proper hydration, healthy lifestyle choices, sun safety and a positive attitude will help keep your skin looking youthful and boost the effect of Facercising. I promise that you will see results if you stick with the program. All you need is 16 minutes a day. So what are you waiting for?
What Facercise Can Do for You
Before I describe how Facercise can benefit you, and why I believe it is a better option than cosmetic surgery, I want to explain how I created this exercise program and why Im living proof that it works!
When I was younger I opted to have plastic surgery on my nose. Unfortunately, the procedure did not turn out as expected, and I was very unhappy with the results. The surgeon left a dent on the side of my nose and the tip was too long. I could have opted to have it redone, but I had lost confidence in his ability to correct it. At the young age of 36, my husband at the time commented that I was aging beyond my years. Although I knew deep down inside that he was right, I was hurt by his comments and desperately wanted to do something about it. At the time, I was a licensed aesthetician (skincare specialist) and owned a skincare clinic. I offered my clients various treatments, including a massage technique to tone and lift the face. The technique was very popular and worked quite well, but the results were not very long lasting. This got me thinking: What if I could develop a technique to permanently lift the muscles of the face? I began experimenting on my own face and developed a program to work the various muscles of the face. The results were positively amazing. Even my coworkers and friends began to take notice. The Facercise program was born.
Throughout the years I have revised, changed and improved upon my program to create even more positive changes in the face. Working the facial muscles against a resistance works in the same manner as lifting weights. You can open up the entire eye area, lift the eyebrows, define and lift the cheeks, plump up your lips, turn mouth corners up, and firm your entire neck and jawline. There is even an exercise to shorten and narrow your nose or straighten a crooked nose. All you need to do is decide to take control, be disciplined, remain focused and concentrate on the facial muscles while you work them. But, above all, believe you can and you will restore your own natural beauty and youthfulness using my program.
The New Ultimate Facercise Program Is Born
Being the perfectionist that I am, Im constantly tweaking and improving my program. The original Facercise program (Beginning Facercise) contains 14 synergistic exercises that take only 11 minutes of your time, twice a day, for a total of 22 minutes. Next, I created the Advanced program, which is included in a chapter of The New Facercise, which was released in 2002. The Advanced program contains nine exercises to address specific areas of the face that need additional attention, or to create more definition. That program was not meant to replace the Beginning Facercise program, but rather to complement it. The intent was for the Beginning Facercise program to remain the foundation program, from which you can then move on. Since that time, some of my clients have expressed an interest in special exercises, which Ive included in the Ultimate Facercise program; for example, the new Nose Transformer exercise to fix a crooked nose, or a nose that curves to one side. Some of my clients have also mentioned their desire for a shortened version of the program. So, some exercises in the new Ultimate Facercise program are replacing older versions and will address more than one area of the face, making this program quicker and more efficient.
Facial-exercise clients of mine, who have trained with me in person or who have trained with me via Skype, know that my program has changed and evolved over the years. Unfortunately, I could not reach out to the millions of people who I have personally trained or who have read my previous books to inform them of these improvements. Hence, I decided, after eight years, that it was time for me to write a new book to spread the word.
