ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First, thank you to Lisa McClain and Claire Yee of McGraw-Hill Education for their guidance and input on what seemed a Sisyphean effort at times. Your experience and patience were evident from day one, and I cant thank you enough for the seemingly endless supply. To the rest of the staff who helped make this book a reality, you have my humble thanks as well.
Special thanks go to my technical editor, Heather Linn, who disabused me of any overconfidence before it could think about developing, and who consistently hammered me with one of my own favorite axioms: Language matters. Her patience and breadth of knowledge were humbling and serve as testament to the fact that not one of us ever stops being a student. This book would not have happened without those occasional gut punches. Truly, thank you.
Warm thanks go to my project editor, Laura Stone, and copyeditors Bart Reed and Bill McManus, whose enthusiasm and support provided an appreciated influx of positivity and focus on the final stages of assembling this work. It has been an absolute joy working with you all.
To Mike Hartman: thank you for opening the door. To Chuck Bredestege: you let me into your china shop and, somehow, I managed to make more things than I broke (I think). Thank you for giving me the freedom to try, fail, and succeed. To Dave Smith: at the risk of sounding like a philosophy undergrad referencing Camus twice in his acknowledgements, everything about this journey has been absurd. Sincere thanks, my friend. To Ray Nutting, another gambler: thank you for your professional guidance, and for putting me up to write this book in the first place.
To family: Thanks to my brother Chris for the regular sanity checks. Also, check . Janice and Paul, thank you for filling the gaps when needed. Mom, thank you for being in my corner from day one. Dad, not enough space here for all of it, but thank you. Finally, a massive thank you to my wife, Melinda, and our children, Isobelle and Ellias. Your love, support, and patience have been the linchpin to this effort.
